Half-way there!

You've encouraged me to go for jeans, even though I'm 83, and I have started looking for the right pair: definitely black denim, bootleg.

As I already have a leather jacket I took heart from Linda's post in another section and decided to wear it. Still not sure I don't look like a little old man but here I am, warts and all!

So, Yay or Nay?

You look fabulous...no chance of looking like a little old man. Be sure to look for jeans with a hint of Lycra. They should be a touch snug at first. They will stretch out a bit. Be sure to keep them out of the dryer. Have fun!

Be ye not afraid! You look lovely, and I love the menswear touch on ladies, I must say. The details that keep it unmistakably feminine are your hair and your shape, plus the whimsy of the polka dots. The topstitching on the lapels is really delightful!

Do you have a pair of jeans in mind, Eirlys? I love the idea of bootcuts, and also -- if you can find them in this era of skinnies and boyfriend jeans -- trouser jeans. Trouser jeans tend to have less obvious stitching and less jean-like pockets, if that's more in your initial comfort zone.

Great jacket! As another senior, can I recommend a pair of straight leg jeans for your inaugural pair? While I love my bootcuts, I think they look best with a heel which may or may not be to your liking. On the other hand my straights look good with either flats or heels.

A couple of other jean tips:
A more substantial denim with only 1-2% stretch is usually more flattering than a very stretchy jean on an older figure.

At least try on a few pairs of the pricier jeans even if you have trouble with the cost; the fit and construction of premium denim will tune you into what you need to look for if you decide to look for jeans at a lower price point.

Consider going to a couple of specialty shops, or a good department store, to try on a bunch of different styles. If you are lucky, you will find your "Jean Dude" who will suggest things.

I am in the Uk so will probably look in good old M&S or John Lewis. I also like the Anne Brooks Petite range. I am only 5 foot 1 and can't wear anything too wide. They definitely will have to be stretch fabric!

You look fantastic! My goodness -- a leather jacket, and what a leather jacket.

By the way, when I contemplated my own first purchase of a leather jacket last year, I hemmed and hawed and tried on many different styles. None seemed right. Finally one of our clever members (ClearlyClaire) gently suggested that I try a blazer style. I poo-pooed her. Oh no, I want something MUCH more cool than that....

Fast forward a few months. Guess which jacket finally came home with me -- and gets worn? Yes. A blazer style.

I vote with Gaylene that you look perhaps for some straight leg jeans. Although those can be scarce these days.
