I got my hair cut about a month ago and my salon experience felt fine but the cut is not what I wanted. I've been going to her ever since I moved here two years ago and it took me a year of haircuts to get her to finally cut it exactly the way I wanted. Now with a year of sheltering at home and cutting it myself, she has no guide to what I want, I did show a couple of photos but it didn't help much, so it seems I'm back to square one. I have much sympathy for you because finding a new hairdresser is a big challenge. I think you look fab but it's not the look you are going for and even more distressing is her attitude towards solving this global pandemic crisis.

More hair ideas (and I hope you will share your inspo).

I am useless with short hair ideas, I'm afraid, but I don't think this is a disaster. I do think it lacks the edge of your asymmetric cut, and perhaps you were subconsciously using that to change the vibe of certain outfits. Sort of like how the same dress has a totally different edge on someone with tattoos and rainbow hair than it would a natural blonde with soft makeup.

Sorry about your stylist, though. That's awkward.

Your hair is still lovely. True, it’s not as cool or edgy as usual. Time will fix this. So wear your fab hat until you feel comfortable.

Shevia, first of all, you are beautiful! No haircut could ever change that. So sorry the hairdresser did not give you the haircut that you requested. So frustrating! It’s disappointing that it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

A clerk at the grocery store informed me that she is not getting the vaccination because she has heard things. She said this behind a spit guard and wearing goggles, mask and gloves. Strange times, indeed.

In times like this i do try to remind myself that the good thing about hair is that in 6 weeks it will look different.

So, I'm terribly late here. But first, let me say, that is awful about the stylist and no wonder you are distressed! Whew. What a pain, too, to have to look elsewhere. (I get it. I'm searching for a new stylist too, not because I don't adore mine, but because I can't travel to Vancouver and that's where she is.)

Now, as to the cut itself, it's aggravating in the extreme that you did not get what you wanted, but you look gorgeous to me, and I actually think it makes a really great change, showing you in a different light. I disagree that it "lacks edge" -- it takes a certain amount of courage to go super short, for one thing, especially in some communities -- and your eyes, cheekbones and skin really stand out. Having said that, I also agree that a switch up in cuts and require a switchup in clothing and makeup. Different necklines, jewellery, and even colours sometimes seem better. Luckily, you have a full closet! So you can experiment to find what will work best as this grows out into something you like better. I absolutely love Carla's inspo pictures -- she's amazing at collecting those -- but truly you look spectacular to me as you are right now. Admittedly, as a pixie lover, I am biased.

Wow, Shevia. Sorry that cut experience was out of synch with your hopes and expectations. It is important to be listened to, especially about things that take time to reverse.

I have to say, that opening the photos revealed gorgeous you; the cut really showcases your stunning eyes and you can pull the style off the style beautifully. I do understand about not wanting a cut too short, particularly as I juggle the grow out of my silvery white hair with a wish both to not have it too short for my preferences (sadly, nothing "pixie" about me) and to reduce the amount residual brown dye. You will get where you want to be soon and hopefully a little time will help in having patience with the style. Hang in there and best with the search for a new stylist.

I can understand your disappointment but I will join the choir in reassuring you that you still look great.

I have recently been watching a Spanish programme called money Heist and one of the actress's has a cut somewhere between a pixie and a mullet which has a wave.

It's unfortunate that you had a stylist who doesn't listen, not to mention being anti-vaccine. I think your hair is very elegant, both in cut and color. It suits you well. I used to have a pixie years ago, and now struggle with flat-ironing my wavy hair every day. You've inspired me to think about making a change!

Oh - what a horrible experience. I think the whole thing is what upset you- the not listening, her stance and what is supposed to be a positive hour being awful.

I do concur that you look great with the pixie - you can carry this off, and you have a chance to experiment with different pieces whilst it grows. You don’t need the hat - but it looks fab so embrace it if you want to. You have the bone structure that suits short hair for sure!!

I am useless with hair. I keep to my same with variations. There are lots of others who have given fabulous suggestions.

I am so sorry your hair cut was not what you wanted and you had the additional unpleasant surprise about anti vaccing. I am not minimizing your feelings. They are valid. I do want to say that hen I look at your pics, I do not notice your hair first, I see your amazing eyes and your smile! You are beautiful and even though your hair is temporarily shorter than you like, your inner beauty continues to shine through.

I am sorry that all that happened to you. As a short hair person, I have to say I love the cut on you. Here are some suggestions to try as it grows out.
1. Hair product: try the curling ones, they will pump up your waves and curls. I use Noodle Head (beyond the zone brand), but anything like that should work. You could also try some hair mousse. I don’t blow my hair dry because it only gets poufy-air dry the finger comb as needed.

Again, just wow. I am incredibly touched by the thoughtfulness of the responses to my post. I am not devastated by my hair, rather just aggravated by the situation, and it certainly not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it is all sorts of wonderful to get so much support from you all. And yes, my hair is a big statement and since it naturally attracts attention I really prefer it to look intentional rather than practical. I love your inspo pictures, and will find a short hair specialist - right now my hair is both too long on the sides and too short on top!

I'm late here, but had to commiserate. I absolutely hate being in that salon chair, getting that sinking feeling that your haircut is going horribly awry, and there is nothing you can do but sit there and smile politely and make small talk! Ugh. And it's especially bad when you've gone to this stylist for a while, developed trust, and then she hits you with the wrong haircut plus the anti-vaxxing stance! Just too much. I'm so sorry.

I agree with everyone, however, that even though she botched it, you still look chic and fabulous!

Jaime, I know what you mean by, "too long at the sides and too short on top".

You can do something to improve that, actually. Have the sides cut shorter asap. It will make a big difference to the shape, and you'll feel better about you hair. Do you dare to ask DD to cut your hair again?

Aww, J - so sad to hear this! I have SO been there. I was looking forward breathlessly to your new cut!

First of all, though it isn't what you wanted - your new haircut shows off your flawless skin, beautiful cheekbones, and pert chin - you have such a well proportioned face and this shows that off.I actually really liek it on you (honestly.)

I do miss your ringlets but agree with carla - having had a very similar cut, I can guarantee you will have perfect ringlets in 1-2 months. So this haircut will last you for a bit, which is great.

Also - it is intriguing how different it makes you look with different tops and lipstick. I think that experimenting with a bold lipcolour and tops will be so great - that boat neck looks amazing on you! You can experiment with sharper styles, different patterns - this harcut will give evrything a new vibe and feel. also, it doesn't feel helmet like to me - you still have some movement.

Or, what about folding a bandanna or scarf and wrapping it like a headband, to add some color and/or match the outfit?

Roxanna - Thank you! I had to laugh a bit at your very flattering description of me - my skin and my chin (side view, don't ask) are actually two of the things I am most self conscious about! Luckily our hair grows quickly!
Firecracker - Yes, the puffy factor is so annoying - I wake up with a lot of puffy volume (think bride of frankenstein). I have never been able to see the Jackie Kennedy comparison myself, but that doesn't mean I am not flattered to the moon when I hear it! Thank you.
