Shannon, I have been absolutely loving your hair lately!! So funny. But I completely understand the need for a bit of a change.
As you know, I have a modified version of #4. Sometimes more modified (i.e. shorter and less obvious length differentials from the rest) and sometimes a bit closer to that, although I have not yet had a fringe quite that long, for practical reasons.
My hair texture sounds similar to yours. SUPER thick, some but not a ton of wave, greys coming in. Of course I colour it, too.
What I've found is that my bang itself needs to be thinned out and quite layered for the longer fringe to work. So it doesn't look quite like #4, regardless. But it does work. Some days I don't even need to use the flat iron. I tend to use it once after washing and then go a couple of days without using it (and without washing, either.) It takes all of one minute just to iron that part flat. In humidity I might have to do it more often; because the hair has to be thinned out so much, the ends do want to curl in humidity. But yours sounds a bit straighter than my natural hair.
With product, I can also get and keep the look of #3 very easily. And I can mimic a shorter, spikier cut for a few hours at a time. (I have never found the product yet that will hold my hair completely, unless it is Crazy Glue).
I'd love to wear my hair in a little punk twist like Angie but my super high forehead makes it less than lovely on me. Your face is better proportioned so you might be able to do something like that.
