ETA Good maximal or bad maximal?

Hi guys,
Well it’s super busy on the forum atm. Fun! I’m calling in for advice. The last three days have seen me sport three casual outfits, a little more maximal than usual. I think I was trying to be trendy but feel I’ve missed the mark lol.
I’m a bit uncertain of they’re working tbh. Is there too much going on? Don’t worry I won’t be offended, honest opinions/suggestions sought.....

Working for me! Your cohesive, tight palette and simple shapes make the maximal touches of silver shoes (super fab, by the way), bracelets, pattern mixing, and print blouse under denim jacket all JUST the right way to be maximal, IMO.

The looks seem fine to me. I think they each have a place in life. I think #1 is the dressier of the 3 and #2&3 comfortable and casual but well put together. All 3 shows thought put into the looks. Love the bracelets too.

I like #3. The other 2 are not bad except for the yellow earrings, but it's just me - I'm more into metal jewelry. Bracelets are great though.

#1 looks great and I would call it minimal actually . I don't think any of these are too maximal for your style at all. I do prefer the wide pants with the pointy shoes or maybe hemmed a smidge if you want to wear them with round flats.

I love outfit 1 and yeah, I also think it looks clean and minimal.

None of these seem super maximal to me. Your accessories are great and the individual clothes are simple enough that they combine well. I'm not sure about the lengths of the pullover vs buttoned shirt in outfit 2 - I think I'd like the combination better if they were the same length or the pullover were cropped - but I still think the overall effect is quite nice.

I like them all, not too maximal. The first one is gorgeous - my fave, the third one is fun and interesting, nice mix of pattern and textures, cute bracelets. The second one casual and comfy and I like the colours together. The earrings are great and very you. Very nicely done, Jussie!

I can reply now. First time I looked at this post, I thought “that’s maximal?” Now I see others feel the same & I’m not a weirdo.

Maybe our sensibilities are changing, but I see these looks as cohesive and pulled-together. They have full compliments of accessories, but nothing excessive. I think you look great in all of them, especially #2.

I agree that the lighter shoes are better with #3.

The shoes are awesome, and the speckled pants!
I personally have poison eye for a colorful hem poking out under a top layer. I want to see more of this colorful thing vertically- so I prefer it with jacket unbuttoned, or with a long cardigan rather than short jacket.
But all looking good!

What Shevia said. I wonder if it feels 'maximal' to you because it's a different statement than you're used to making? Just a thought You look great Jussie! #2 is my fave although to me outfit #1 looks so on trend and modern-classic. So fun watching your style evolution!

I wouldn't call any overly maximal, and actually id like to see a scarf or something with texture added to number 1! Or leopard shoes. Something to harmonize the colors.

Suntiger: thank you for your response. I totally agree I think maybe a scarf in outfit one to tie the colours together would be a good idea :). I do have some leopard shoes I could try too....
Torontogirl: thank you for the lovely words. Yes I think my eye isn’t used to wearing a lot of detail in one outfit. I do love more maximal looks on other people I don’t often feel confident to pull it off myself!

Jessikams: thanks for the feedback :). I often prefer jackets unbuttoned too, to create that magical vertical line... but I just couldn’t do it here because this jacket looks too boxy unbuttoned with those wider pants... if only I had an inexhaustible supply of jackets!
Fashintern: thanks for the lovely feedback. I do agree they’re mainly maximal by my own standards... and where I live people stick to largely neutrals, in very safe combinations. I think my outfits look almost alternative and maximal by comparison. I know that’s hard to believe! But it’s really incredibly conservative in my suburb.

I quite like these, especially #1 since I lean toward minimal. I personally am a fan of a shirt tail sticking out under a sweater so that is fun too. I do wonder about the pants lengths of these, maybe should be a tad shorter, but it might just be hard to tell from the camera angle.

Jussie, these outfits do not look too maximal but fun and interesting. Wear them with confidence. Maybe you will inspire others in your area to loosen up a bit.

Jussi I think you look lovely in these. The pointy toed shoes look so great on you too.

It is interesting that you feel that these missed the mark. It is a bit outside of your usual colour scheme. #1 is two bold colours, whereas I usually think of you wearing softer colours. So whilst these look good, perhaps it is just that they don't feel like you. If I saw you walking down the street I would think "Wow, she looks great!"

I like all these outfits and they don't feel particularly maximal to me. But whats maximal to one person may have a different feel for someone else. I love those metallic shoes in #1. I really like the shoes in #5 too but I think the pants should be hemmed longer. That's just my opinion though.

Looking good Jussie,I think I would prefer flats with the last one but that’s just me.l love #1 on you.you really suit a structured,simple silhouette.

#1 is elegant. The tucked in top works very well; the simplicity comes off as elegant. The jackets might work better if you also wore a tucked in top. But the flowy style is great for casual and ease. All depends on the occasion I think. Your short haircut I also love btw.

Thanks for all your wise and helpful comments :). I appreciate it. I think part of it is that I feel I look a bit “messy” if there’s more than one focal point. Additionally, I have a personal theory that people with curly hair tend to look good with a more maximal look, but those with straight hair tend to need to “mirror” their flat hair with a more streamlined look.
But yet I had a craving to try some trendier, bolder looks. On the other hand.... minimalism is trendy right now so...... I dunno.
In conclusion, I think I will wear number one again (possibly with leopard scarf), and number three again (with the pointy shoes only). I probably won’t wear number two again, although on reflection I don’t hate it.
I’m still mulling over whether to change the length of the wide leg pants.

Love the first two outfits. They’re great.
For the third one, the jean jacket seems a little too light or something. I would opt for a darker or more saturated topper.

#1 is minimalist with interest! The silver shoes, the interesting colors and fabrics, the cropped trouser..... Well done!

I would finish with a belt, if those are loops I see; silver if not wearing bracelets/rings, or blending with the pants color if adding jewelry. And my choice of jewelry would be either a big silver cuff OR two or three chunky silver bangles, sculptural earrings..... YLF!!!!!!

Imogen talks about the hair theory on her blog inside out style. To sum it, textured hair (wave, curl) or skin (freckles, lines) works better with textured fabrics (ruffles, lace, tweed, etc) or prints. Smooth hair/skin with smooth sheeny fabrics. I expect most people are combinations, so combining fabric types?
