My Eileen Fisher dress arrived this week and I promptly did an outfit lab. Photos arranged from my most to least favorite attempts.

#1 Ariat boots and Johnny Was sweater duster

#2 Same, but holding the duster

#3 Seasonally confused? What’s that? Puffer, beanie, and Bed Stu boots.

#4 Open silk blouse as topper. Meh.

#5. Bonus pic. WIW today.

Any other casual styling ideas? I still need to try dress-as-skirt with a pullover over the top. Should work though.

Well first of all wow! That color and texture are amazing on you. I sort of loving seeing people rock the exact colors that would be dreadful on me - just sort of reminds me that we are all different. Ok, well of course the sweater over the whole thing is next, but how about layering a top underneath. Not sure how the material would work with buttons underneath but maybe a tee?

That colourful patterned duster is so perfect with your new dress, which is fabulous even on its own. You could also experiment with other colours and styles of cardigans, or layer an oversized blouse over the dress and maybe tie it at the waist.

I very much like all variations, and with the puffer - SoCal itself is so seasonally confused - I like this combo - not “confused” at all.

Color reminds me of ginkgo leaves in the fall.

Wow, it's gorgeous on you. That first outfit is divine. The beanie and puffer are a fun and stylish casual look, too.

I see several cardigans in your Finds that look like they might go nicely--a plummy one and cinnamon one. Does the shorter Anthro cardi go with it? What about the velvet dress worn open? Or the Anthro duster. I like the idea of trying a tee under it, too.

I hope there's no question about keeping this dress. It seems meant for you!

The first picture is stunning. The dress is beautiful and the colours in the duster look amazing with it. Also the background with the autumn leaves makes a fabulous backdrop. I always admire your hair it’s your crowning glory.

Aw, beautiful dress! My favorites are # 1 and especially # 3 - I like seasonally confused outfits! I am not convinced of # 4 as well - I think this dress looks better with longer toppers.

Love that duster over the dress, you can also try a longer BF linen blazer sort of in a natural neutral cream color, and matching shoes (sneaks with thick cream sole?) .

Wow! Love it for you so much! Another one here who looks like death in that color, so I enjoy it on others. I adore it with the duster, and I think it’s totally fun with the puffer too. I’d just try on every topper you own with it! How about a chunky-ish sweater over it to treat it more as a skirt, as well?

Oh, this is AMAZING on you!! And the perfect Thanksgiving dress. Just beautiful. I love that colour so much but can't wear it so I will drool over it on you and in all your combinations. It's brilliant with the duster. I'd do what Janet suggests and try every topper you have -- why not?

I'd also try with a tee underneath for a 90s feel if you have the right one.

What a spectacular dress! It looks amazing on you. I love all the looks you made (and have zero issue with seasonal confusion- I think it’s perfectly acceptable in California!)

You have some fab long items that would work with this. Any of your button up dresses, your longer cardigan, the moto jacket would also be fab, as would a denim jacket (I didn’t see a denim jacket in your finds).

The chunky jenni Kaye sweater would be fun for a tonal look. I think all shoes could work with this dress. What a versatile, fun piece. I love the texture of it!

That is a stunning dress and really special. I haven't seen anything similar around so it really stands out. I like all the stylings, but probably the first two the best.

It’s a really cool dress, it’s got some pizzaz.
I actually quite like it with the open blouse over the top.
Another idea you could try is wearing a white or black tee under the dress, or if it fits underneath you could try the black button up blouse under it. Or even a thin turtleneck l/s tee underneath, maybe in a print.
Also you could try it with print or textured tights under. Even a long pendant style necklace could be interesting.
