I know citron doesn't float everyone's boat but it's the yellow for me.
AnnieMouse, I used Waproo products which you may not be able to get. On my first attempt I used a solvent I found in the shed and the subsequent coat of paint peeled right off. So I then used the proper stripper and really hammered the leather to remove its shine. You'll know when it's properly prepped because the surface will be dull.
It took very little paint to recover the shoes and so far it seems to have keyed well.
