Going to the Ballet

Next Thursday. Haven’t been in ages. Will actually go into the city at night. Seeing Frankenstein. It’s annoyingly only running for a few days, March 6 to 11.

Have started contemplating what to wear. It will be freezing cold. Will no doubt have to walk much further than I have any desire to walk such is the parking situation - and public transport would only be worse - but how often do I have occasion to wear heels?

I’m thinking pants suit...

Pants sound warm and practical. Make sure you can walk fast in your heels so you can get out of the cold as quickly as possible.

It has really been raining this week. I don’t fancy rain next week. But that might be another consideration and push for the pants suit...

Also, scandal of all scandals, my only weather appropriate Puffy is incredibly drab. So I was actually thinking of wearing this one:

I bought a jumpsuit for freezing nights out. I've found it to work really well. Is that the same as a pantsuit? Don't know...

Oh, yes, it could mean that - but I meant a suit of matching jacket and pants. Sadly, all my jumpsuits are summer weight things. Kari just did a jumpsuit for a night out; it was brilliant. It’s just too cold here for mine right now

I love your outfit, but where is the puffy?? Will you be warm enough?? I do understand that SF ballet is pretty formal, here in Australia, even at the ballet, you can be casual (which is a shame, I think - it is much nicer when people dress up).

The ballets I've been to have a fair number of people who dress for the theme. Frankenstein should be fun to dress for.

I am going to the same ballet, only on Tuesday! The wind really whips around the opera house. I would start with the outwear and shoes then work back down to the dress/pants. I really think anything goes. I've been going to the SF opera and ballet for years and no matter how formal the opera house is, or how much you pay for the tickets, I see jeans...

ETA - Please no teased hair, for the sake of those sitting behind you! I like the outfit posted above, it's dramatic without the big hair.

We will have to compare notes, Denise! What will you wear? I’m going to date myself, but it was early 90s when jeans overtook dressing up at the ballet and symphony. The opera held out a little longer, I feel, but only I think because of the society following and the balls... Gosh, without Herb Caen, I don’t hear ANYTHING about the opera and society anymore...

Also: to be an old curmudgeon, I STILL really miss Michael Smuin!!
