I picked up my new specs today. Please forgive the lousy Photobooth photos; it's all I can manage at the moment. Just wanted to compare side by side.

First two pics, my old frames. I bought them, but I was never completely sold on them, despite the fact that the highly experienced optician and my hubby felt they were the best-fitting pair of all I tried.

These have never been comfortable for me either. Which isn't saying a whole lot, since I've never owned a pair of glasses I can wear all day without a headache.

Next 3 pics, the new glasses. I know they are very strong for someone of my complexion, and won't be everyone's cuppa. But I already love them both for looks and comfort, compared to the old ones.

And I figure if I ever get tired of nerdy specs they will be great for sunglasses.

Your thoughts - even critical ones - most welcome, as always.

I like both! I think the new ones look great and are cool & funky! I too went from thinner wire frames to thicker plastic frames (red and brown) a couple years ago when my old ones broke (I was so bummed), and now I feel so used to thicker frames that I don't think I could go back to thin frames. I feel like thicker frames "balance" out my face better. I think you look great in the new ones! Yay!!!

Ooh! Thank you, Angie! The coveted K rating! They feel pretty killer to me, too, so that is very confirming. I do admit I got some stares when I wore them home today. Were people thinking I looked cool, or weird? Who knows. And I don't care.

These are the black Bevel frames with the white interiors. The white actually catches the light surprisingly well and makes them seem considerably lighter feeling in person than in the photos. (if that makes any sense).

I sent back the Oliver Peoples' frames. They just weren't a 10. I can wait for a second pair.

Thank you also for the love for my challenge outfit. Hubby really liked that one, too. He will be chuffed at your approval. Sadly, I had to change out of that outfit for my evening plans because it threatened major rain and I didn't want to get the jeans all spotted. Oh well.

These are PERFECT! My gosh, they fit your face beautifully Suz and I love the white inside - softens the harshness. These are going to go with your fab style beautifully!

I like them, alot-- then again, they are a similar shape to most of my specs, and two pairs ago I had a frame, black with white inside. I like it better on you though, the white brings out your blue eyes. When you go looking for a second frame I'd love to see you in a burgundy or soft red/deep pink.

Elly, I absolutely agree. In fact, I was hoping for burgundy or dark rose in this frame, or maybe purple, but alas, it only came in variegated colours like that and Angie and I both felt this would be ALGO for my simpler style. So now, for a second pair, I'll be on the lookout for those colours.

So glad you are all liking them! There was some disagreement on the forum when I first tried them out. This is a weird case where I actually think it HELPED to have my actual lenses in the frame. The mock-up lenses were a bit distorting, somehow.

Suz, I like your original glasses but the new ones are just that bit more modern and have a kind of crispness and freshness to them. I think you look great. I find choosing frames quite an agonizing process so I am taking notes from you and others as you make your frame choices. Did DH like the new ones?

1/2 = old.

3/4/5/ = new.

Thanks, Deborah, and hubs likes them, yes. He helped me pick them out, in fact. He finds them a bit large, but that is just because he's not used to them. They ARE undeniably larger than the old, but that is good for my peripheral vision (not to mention future use as sunglass frames, LOL. )

You got the geeky glasses! LOVE! You look very fab, that's why there was all the staring going on. I hope, hope, hope you find a burgundy or purple that works too. Such fun to have watch and glasses wardrobes!

Love them! Quite edgy! I also am due to new spec, and no clue what to look for, but nowadays I am also very attracted to nerdy frames, like your new ones, even I'm a blonde noncontrast person myself, too. I guess we always crave a change, from the old ones. (you can see my oldies in my profile pictie, which are almost invisible on my face-and at that time I thought that's cutest ever....now, not so much at all...:-))

Hi Suz --

Here's hoping the new ones go the distance in terms of comfort (I share your pain on that issue)!

In terms of looks I actually like both old and new pairs; given your coloring/hair, I have a feeling I might prefer the older ones if I saw you in lighter tones, but with darker tones like your chic "glasses debut" outfit everything looks really harmonious and your lovely face stays center stage.

Totally agreed, Vix. The new specs, being quite heavy and dark, really require dark elements in the outfit to ground them. And here I was, trying to reduce my reliance on black!

Sigh...

But eventually I'll find a second pair of lighter coloured ones as well. These really are about 40 times more comfortable than the old, both physically (on my nose/face) and visually (I have a wider field of vision because they are larger). Which is a HUGE relief to me. My eyesight is truly terrible and I could not drive in my older glasses.
