A few weeks ago, Angie posted a PSA (public service announcement) about teal denim at G-Star. I was intrigued enough to order the matching jeans and jacket. After a couple of weeks of nail-biting about whether the items would arrive from Europe without some unexpected tariffs slapped on and charged without notice to my credit card, the items did arrive, with no extra hidden charges. So here's a review!
I ordered two sizes in the jeans (27/32 and 26/32) and one (S) in the jacket. I tried on the smaller size jeans first and then had no reason to open the larger size.
The quality is fantastic, as expected. I adore the rich blue-teal color and the slightly coated effect of the overdyed denim, which has a little sheen. It isn't quite the leather-look of some other coated denim I have, but it's similar. Still, it feels soft and wearable, and has a nice drape.
The jacket is lined with a satin-finish fabric, so it slides easily over shirt or sweater sleeves, and has soft padding between the lining and outer layer, giving a cozy feel, almost like a lightweight puffer. The jacket has heft, yet it doesn't feel heavy to wear. It's more of an outdoor jacket--makes me want to hop on a Vespa and take off.
The jeans are probably mid-rise, not too high-rise for me, and fitted at the waist but roomy through the hip and thigh with fairly wide straight legs. I love the shape.
Here are the try-on pics:
1-2: jeans, front and back, with a plaid shirt I might wear them with. I have turned under the hem a bit for the photos.
3-6: jacket (unzipped and zipped) and jeans
7-9: jacket paired with my new leopard-print jeans, for comparison of sizing on the jeans and better view of the jacket.
My impressions:
On the jeans: I think I don't have the right size, or they might not be quite the right shape for my body. I definitely should have ordered the 30 length, not 32 (in my defense, I've been hemming my full-length jeans to 30.5 to 31.5 inches, hence my choice of 32). These are a good 2 inches too long for me.
On the jacket: I think I might have the right size here. There isn't much extra room at the bottom, at my high hip.
I like both pieces. What do you all think? Should I order different sizes in either or both? Send them back and forget them?
