Fuchsia or hot pink? Twee or potentially fab?

Okay, so you all know I love my $20 fuchsia jacket from H&M. But. I have worn it a LOT. And I am thinking it may not look as pristine as I might like moving forward. I considered buying the J. Crew schoolboy blazer in the fall, but didn't do so.

So here is a cotton one from BR. Is it fuchsia (or close enough) or is it hot pink? (Anybody seen in person?)

And is it hopelessly twee or potentially fab?

And it is stupidly one-seasonal (i.e. spring) for someone in my 4 season climate?

Suz you will get a laugh out of this - you know I adored your look in another post with the black and white Doc Marten shoes, well in my quest to copy your look I came across the same jacket and was wondering the same thing as you! I will wait to see how the rest of YLF weighs in on this one! Hope you don't mind my copying your look (it is sincerely the highest form of flattery, remember!)

Are you kidding? ABC, I would consider it the highest honour! Heck, I even want to copy my look! But if I don't move soon, my jacket will disintegrate and I won't have a replacement!

It doesn't look twee to me Suz, especially in light of other pieces in your wardrobe and how you style your outfits. I'm not sure on the seasonality, though. Hopefully some other 4-season YLFers can help with that

Sorry I'd call it hot pink. Even the name "maui rose" doesnt imply the requisite amount of blue/purple undertone to be considered fuchsia.

I'm not good at assessing twee, i think it is in the pairing as much as the item with some things.

ETA: not that you can't do hot pink

I think this could work out perfectly, Suz! But you need to see the color in person - I think a shade off could go from fab to twee. I'd like to see if this is as saturated as your current blazer. It looks all-season to me.

I think it would be a great replacement for your other blazer. Not too twee at all, and your pants and shirts are classic, so they will go well.

I can see this jacket on you, but have not seen it in person. I just looked at some Halogen jackets that come in many lovely colors, but they are cotton and seem only appropriate for warm weather. The cotton jackets, including a red cotton blazer I bought last year, also seem to fall between casual and dressy in a way that makes them hard to style , for me anyway. I'd rather have a twill or seasonless wool. This may not be a problem for others.

I love the blazer, but the sleeves look so short on the model that it looks like a junior size. Perhaps that's why your gut is thinking "twee"??

I don't think it's twee and I don't think its restricted to one season either. I wear my hot pink blazer all the time-- you could try with all white or cream for summer or with black and camel/cognac for fall/winter.

However, I'm not sold on this particular blazer because of the lapels. I'd go for a more classic lapel instead because the colour is the statement, and I think too many statements in one piece can make it hard to wear!

Suz -- you have a great eye which you can trust to tell you what's worth a go. That said, I think this fabric would read "seasonal," which is not to say "stupid," (lol). Sometimes the hunt has moments of frustration. Still, if you have room for something you wear 6-8 months of the year, I'd give it a try.

I don't think it is twee at all. I like the strong but feminine color a lot. I had a jacket in a similar color a few years ago and thought it looked great with navy and black. The cut also makes it more grown up.

Una, that's a very cool jacket. But I suspect the cut wouldn't work for me -- it looks boyfriendish. And so far, my best BF are jeans. Never found a BF jacket that really truly loved me (much as I might love him).

Beth Ann, you are right - it's the fabrication that would feel seasonal to me...spring/summer. Which could still be okay, except I never wear jackets in summer at all!

ABC, you are a sweetheart! That would be great! The closest BR to me is in Toronto and I won't be there for a couple of weeks -- plus they might not even have it in store.

Jyoti, you raise a really good point. I hadn't thought about that.

Anna, you might be right about the sleeves. They don't say if they are supposed to be 3/4 length. If not, they'd probably be long enough on me since my arms would be shorter than the model's.

Joy, I hear you about the cotton. I have hesitated about buying cotton jackets in the past. This one has an interesting texture that might make it more wearable (I could hope).

I would order it, Suz. I just got bag full of stuff from Gap and all is going back but one shirt - and I LOVE this shirt. What can you lose with free shipping and return anyway? And if you won't have a chance to see it in the store then you would never know if it was The jacket or not...also I have not seen this jacket in my store. I know that my BR store does not carry all models, the selection is quite smaller than online...

Sorry Suz I'm not seeing it for you but there is no harm in trying it with your wardrobe.

It seems to me that you have been looking at very different cuts and vibes lately and in your style descriptor.

I feel the pockets and perhaps colour make it very very different than the one that you currently own. To me they interfere with the line but I do have a thing for pockets...

It is pink. It is not as classic or versatile so not as much a throw over anything jacket. Maybe not as androgynous. Not as good with taupe as a purple- y-er hue. Still could be pretty.

Suz, you are right. This jacket has more texture than a smooth regular cotton jacket and should transcend seasons. I can see the collar looking so fab with your pixie.

I would absolutely try this Suz! Get it be before your trip and take it along. The texture of the fabric will definitely help extend it's wearability through the seasons. Get it now and if it fits and you like the color- wear it and inject some color into the lives of those who have the good fortune of crossing your path.
To me it looks like the fit will suit your body type. (Not enabling, just saying:-))

Umm.. I actually saw that in person and I was not too fond of that little pocket on top. It looks a bit overdesigned for my taste ( and for yours), but I'm a minimalist. That color seems to be hot this Spring. I bet other jackets will pop up. It is not a hot pink or neon pink. It is more of a fuchsia /raspberry color.

I love this jacket, I don't see it as too young at all. Either way I can't tell the difference between hot pink and fuchsia I use them interchangeably.

I read some of the earlier comments and I agree that this is a strong but feminine color -- I have more than a few pieces in the color range. In a jacket I don't think it is the color that can be young as much as the cut, details, and heft of the fabric. Rainbow sparkles would scream young this color fuchsia/hot pink whispers I have a strong opinion, take it or leave it.

Hang on, is fuschia good? Or is hot pink good? Are they both good? Honestly, I thought they were two words for basically the same thing.

Second question: are we saying it's potentially twee because of the colour, or the style? To me "twee" means nauseatingly girlish and stupid. Here's what the Urban Dictionary has to say (you know, because it has the answers to life, the universe, and everything..*cough*)

twee:
Something that is sweet, almost to the point of being sickeningly so. As a derogatory descriptive, it means something that is affectedly dainty or quaint, or is way too sentimental. In American English it often refers to a type of simple sweet pop music, but in British English it is used much more widely for things that are nauseatingly cute or precious. It comes from the way the word sweet sounds when said in baby talk.

I don't think that jacket is any of those things. I don't love it, though, and I'm not sure I see it on you in particular. Why don't you try it on and see?

Suz, if you are going to spend the $ on a new jacket, please, please buy the one from Inge in white. It is simply so excellent on you. I am afraid this one, in cotton, will quickly loose shape, and that the colour will not look as vibrant as your H&M one.

Plus you are right about the cut. May very well turn out too boxy. Jackets are tricky business for small frame gals.

Tricky. I think you will have to look. I can do it next week if you like - probs Monday as I have a return at the Bay. I saw a really nice pink lined jacket at Reitmans yesterday - new arrival, not yet on the website. It was in the petite section and I am no sure if they had it in regular. It reminded me of you, because I would also love to copy that look. I didn't try it on but it is somewhat fitted and cropped. In fact, they had a few suit style blazers worth looking at.
