Friday WIW and proposed hem length

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on my other thread. It’s me again considering hem length. I’d love your opinion—First photo is ankle length which I think is still too long. The second one is shorter which I think I prefer. Now I’m wondering if I should go even shorter? Also today’s WIW and a WIWW for Father’s Day lunch. Thanks in advance.

I prefer the shorter length you have shown, but I was thinking even a bit shorter when you said “midi.” Of course, I know next to nothing about midi length, so take that FWIW.

Oh, MY, do you ever look fab in the high-low hem black dress! I like the multicolored dress with the jacket too.

I vote SHORTER than #2 - still too long in #2.

I LOVE the lengths of #3 and #4. Try length #4 on the black dress in question.

I was going to say the same as Angie, the length of #4 (the short part) would be my recco. (I actually quite liked the maxi length, maybe best of all, much to my surprise!) LOVE the hi-low black dress #3 is it new?? *crosses fingers*

I agree with Angie. I like maxis floor scraping or midi length (so not really maxi, ha ha!). But that’s personal preference of course. These all look great on you.

I really like 3. Can you chop to that length (the front length)?

I have found that with maxis, if you are shorter, it works best to have them really long, all the way to the floor (like yours was originally). Anything hovering around the ankle can look stumpifying. So if you are wanting to make the dress shorter, I would hack to midi length rather than ankle length.

Since you already have a great longer black dress in #3, why not hem your maxi dress even shorter than #3? You could try pinning it up with the hem shorter than the front part of #3, and see what you think. That would give you more variation, since you already have these other dresses at the same length.

love the striped dress...re the black; i know i'm the outlier but i do like the lenght in #1, but if you are going to shorten it, i'd go shorter than #2

Totally off topic but I’m loving your purple sandals. What is the brand? Are they recent?

I like your black dress as a high-low hem. I think that the striped one could work as is or go shorter, depending upon what else you might want to wear with it. I feel like if you had on one of your more boxy jackets, you might like the full length for contrast. Whereas, if you want a more fluid topper, then you probably should go to a few inches shorter on the dress, so that you’re not overwhelmed with flowy fabric.

Thanks, Fabbers! Sorry for the late reply--we were traveling this weekend. I'm going to see about alterations today and will plan on going a bit shorter than the second set of photos of the maxi. Thanks so much for your help!
@Aida: The high low is old. It's kind of annoying because the center panel causes the dress to pucker unless you iron it to death--different fabrication from the rest of the dress. That being said, it's a nice summer dress even with a fussy belt.
#3style: The sandals are Miz Mooz--also several years old. I'll see if I have a find for them. They're really comfortable.

I love the 2nd and 3rd dresses. Dress 1 has a lot of potential. I agree with Angie. Shorter than the 2nd picture.
