So, today I thought, what the heck... I want to dress up a bit. So I did! For my very unglamorous day, all I had planned was a trip to the supermarket after the morning school run and then spend the rest of the day at home, with the cat, sewing (no, the cat wasn't sewing :D). I've been feeling pretty good all day, even though I wasn't absolutely sure whether my outfit worked, but I tried it anyway. I wore my black Fidji ankle boots with nude hose (hold-ups actually). I know the effect can be a little stumpifying on pale skinned me, but I quite liked it. I'm not sure if they look right with my dress though and I tried a bit of pattern mixing with my polka dot bag too. I couldn't resist topping it all off with my blush Muubaa leather jacket as it was a little chilly first thing.

Oh, and Bilbo was very underwhelmed by my outfit

So, suggestions, comments all welcome.

Great outfit! The blush jacket looks terrific with the dress. I don't find the booties/nude hose the least bit stumpifying. You and Bilbo both look fab!

I love this look, and what do you know, I have most of these elements to copy and will be doing so without apology. So, from one SAHM to another, you are an inspiration! Also I think the length of the dress is perfect with the black ankle boots. Showing just enough leg (but not too much) to offset the leg-shortening effect of the ankle boots. I think a great outfit can add to the day, no matter what's on the agenda.

Absolutely! I had one private lesson yesterday, at 5, and a rehearsal at 6. Usually, I change into slightly nicer outfits for these activities. Prior to that, there was a bucket-load of grading (college and homeschool), lots of errands, and some light cleaning. For one, I decided just to look a bit nicer at home. Yes, I cooked dinner in white jeans and a ponte jacket. Felt great, and no spills (next time, I'll add my apron).

You look phenomenal, and a dress can be quite comfy while sewing. I think the high contrast booties look great on you -- wear it again!

BTW -- love that your cat has a Tolkien name. My beloved pup is named Caspian, for a little more English lit love!

Hey grocery shopping is totally a legit excuse to dress up, I do it all the time :).

You look great, I love the dress pattern and those booties look excellent with your (visually) bare legs.

I've noticed the only clothing items cats get excited about are ones with dangling fringe, laces, or ties, and then watch out! You may be stalked and pounced upon.

Rabbit, Bilbo goes for the dangling pom-poms on my furry boot slippers which I wear when I've changed for bed. Glad you like the bare legged look with my boots.

Oooh love it! The black booties definitely work; the black in the dress, your hair, and your bag all add more than enough other dark elements to echo. Also like the funkier vibe the proportions from the longer jacket give.

Bilbo is gorgeous! Is he very old? His coat looks really healthy. My Kitty has very similar coloring (and physique hehe), but instead of that orangey shade he's got a taupey-brown. Coincidentally, he also likes to sleep that way

I love that you dress up to get groceries. Perfectly sound for a SAHM. And what a comfy AND fashionable dress with the dropped waist... And the blush on tops just so very stylish. Love the pattern mixing with purse and the dark booties totally work as bookending.

There's nothing stumpifying here Diane. Quite the opposite in fact. I love how playful and feminine this outfit is. I only wish we saw the dress on its own (sorry if I missed in some earlier post).

That dress is stunning on you, Diane! Cute style, and it's as if you had the fabric designed for you, with those luscious colors. It goes beautifully with the jacket. The bag is great (I'm a fan of the mixed patterns here), as are the booties. Your legs look long! Great outfit for sitting around and watching the cat sew, or oops, the other way around--sewing while the cat watches.

Aida, thank you. I can definitely see the resemblance with your cat and mine. Bilbo is about 3 years old. I comb his coat every other day and he loves a bit of wet and dry food and drinks well too. One of my clients said his fur looked 'plush' He loves to loll in the sun like yours.

Adelfa and Ornella, thank you!. I've popped a pic of the dress below. It has a cowl neckline and dropped shoulders and waist. Quite a casual shape and the pattern is large splashy abstract flower shapes.

I love that you dressed up for the cat. Any reason is a good reason to dress up! I also really like the pink moto over this abstract print. The boots are SO killer (love them!) but admittedly I have a poison I for booties and skirts but that's my preference. Overall I think this is a great combo!
