Sakura Con (anime/japanese culture convention) was a week ago but I'm posting this anyway.
A friend and I dressed as Miria and Isaac from Baccano! (they're a pair of thieves who wear weird outfits when doing a job) The anime takes place in the US in 1930 but I didn't try to find a really 1930's-esque suit.
There are always loads of girls dressed as male characters at these cons, but being tall and small chested I pulled it off better than most
1-2. The pants are pinstriped and should've been hemmed and taken in, oops! Pretty much all of the suit + shoes is thrifted. The cravat is entirely the wrong century and was quickly sewn the morning of. You can't see it but the wig turned out great and has sideburns wig-taped to my face. I sewed the cape from polyester crepe, which draped very well and didn't wrinkle much!
3-4. I made the pumpkin by wrapping rubber bands around a large balloon and paper-macheing for 3 days. If for any reason you need a pumpkin head, I would recommend this method; it's time consuming but I got great results!
My Miria made her Santa costume from a pattern using velveteen and white cottony fluff. Instead of wearing tights she drew a line up the back of her legs (predating WWII rationing-chic, haha)
5. My next costume involves sewing an 1840-ish frock coat like this fashion plate, to wear with a cravat and knee high boots. Super dapper! I'll share it when it's done, probably by summer.
