Flat shoes with a dressy maxi skirt?

In two weeks I will be going to the opera here in Berlin together with my mum who is going to be in town for a few days because of work. I thought I might want to wear my long skirt that I haven't worn again so far. But it will be cold and I will have to walk outside in this outfit, so I'm not going to wear the heels I wore to the event. But can I even wear it with the flat shoes like this or is it a faux pas? I'd probably wear black patterned hose under the skirt to keep warm. I'm not sure about the top either. I don't have to wear the blazer, I thought I might buy some kind of dressy cropped pullover to wear with it if you give me the okay on the shoes. I need some new tops anyway and I'd look for something that would work with my other skirts too.

What do you think? Is a variation on this okay or should I wear something completely different? My mum is going to wear one of her suits with a dressy top.

A flat shoe is fine and it works ok but do you have a shoe/boot that's a bit more fun? Did you buy the ones in this post?

I'm not sure--I think it's less about the shoes, and more about the whole outfit. It seems a little victorian to me. Do you have some fab accessories to liven it up?

I think it's appropriate, too, but would also like to see items to lighten it up. You need some sparkle! Especially if you do not-so-dressy shoes. If you wear the 3/4 sleeve jacket, bracelets would look fab, with a dressy clutch.
You'd also look great in a short sparkly necklace. Anything like that you could borrow from a girlfriend or your mum?

If I were just trying to pick tops to go with the skirt, I might aim for the 1/3: 2/3 proportions for the long skirt, such as do column of color + a bright topper, or top + topper in same lighter or bright color, or your idea of a cropped dressy sweater (in a nice color or with some sparkle ) is fab.

I think it's totally appropriate, but then, I only ever wear flats so may therefore be a tad biased.

And this is off-topic, Astrid, but do you know the brand White Stuff? I was just browsing their online store, and it struck me as having many of the kinds of things you might wear http://www.whitestuff.com/ (UK-based, overseas shipping £8) I have a wallet from them that I love, no experience with their clothes though (I'm considering some knitwear and long sleeve tees).

Sorry I missed this before now. I think this is fine as is Astrid but would love to see the skirt with a dressy cropped pullover too, something that brings the prairie girl out to play.

I think the shoes work perfectly well. I don't like the blazer with this...I would rather see something...shiny, or otherwise "evening". Satin, velvet, rhinestones, gold thread, or whatnot, up top of this for the opera...
