Fisherman knit sweater - this is NOT an easy one!

Bought a Michael Kors sweater from Nordstrom - liked the tunic shape, and it is cotton, which is also nice for a change. It has dolman sleeves, and has a rounded hem - both cute features that attracted me.

But the chunky sweater thing ... is it my eye that needs to adjust? I find it super challenging to wear. I feel like it looks as if I'm hiding an actual rather large fisherman under this sweater

I tlooks great with your jeans and boots. I think maybe your eye needs to adjust a little.
Love the fact that the sweater is cotton.

I find it challenging too, but I do like this on you. It's very casual but fun and easy. I can see you rocking this with a beautiful scarf!

ETA, my deal breaker for big sweaters like this is often the rear view -- if the sweater reaches below and poufs around my backside, it's a no-go! It doesn't look like this one would do that to you.

It looks great on you, Laura. I like the dolman sleeves but wonder if they will be a challenge when you want to layer this sweater under a coat. Love that it's cotton rather than wool, which can be too warm.

My eyes also need to adjust to this trend not so much because of the bulkiness but because it is difficult to make this kind of outfit a little less casual.

It does look good on you.I think you have the ladylike quality to make it work.

I think I might prefer you in a more fitted version, Laura. Those are the chunky knits that I have on order. Not that that should sway you. Just sharing how I am going to try the trend. I had a jumper like this - so did Greg - in the '80s and we called then Irish Arans.

That said, I think you look super cute and huggable! Very on trend. But compare both types of fit before you make the final decision.

And on that note, I am retiring my Frye Rorys. I have not worn them for two years. Of course, you should NOT feel the need to do that! They still look terrific!! I've just had it with that type of casual boot slouch. I can get a bee in my bonnet sometimes

I like the sweater and it looks great on you! However, I can see how it could feel quite bulky especially with the dolman sleeves.

I think you can pull it off and it looks good on you. As far as the eye adjustment issue, I bat for team figure flattery all the way, so this is something I might personally never wear or adjust myself to.

I really like it! You're tall and you look like you SHOULD be wearing a fisherman's sweater (unlike stubby Indian me!).

I posted a fisherman sweater outfit last week but it's sort of cheating because it's a soft acrylic and a colorblock. But I felt it was easier to wear that way. I think you need to embrace the chunky look if you want to wear it and just accept that it's not meant to be traditionally figure-flattering. IMHO, that is made up for by the cozy and fun factor of this look.

You and the sweater look good! And to be honest, I didn't really believe you would. It is way too easy for a gal to look like that must be her dad's fisherman she's swimming in. But you look tall and lean.

I quite like it on you, Laura, it has a bit of a cape vibe, and it's voluminous but not overwhelming. I often love design details like batwing sleeves and rounded hems, and it's pretty unusual to see this in a fisherman's sweater.

I think you look great in this! I never wear sleeves like that because of layering under a coat (and because they make me look bigger), but this style of sweater with the chunky knit and slightly oversized fit looks fantastic on you. The jeans and boots keep the look balanced to me.

I love the look, but those dolman sleeves would make me mad. They never fit into a jacket. I'm with Angie on looking for one more fitted to the body - because everything else is perfect!

I think IK figured out what it is for me that doesn't completely work - the Dolman sleeves. A sweater this same oversized with regular sleeves would work. I would be totally annoyed with bulky wings.

Laura, I have surprised myself by liking this on you. I would heed Angie's suggestion though and compare with the more fitted ones she recommends, before you make a final decision. Is this casual wear? It is certainly flattering on you, a d I do like the length a nd the curved hem.

I like it, but somehow the dolman sleeves are not doing it for me with this sweater. Just seems like more classic sleeves would be better with this style of sweater. Just my two cents, of course :). It does look cute on you!

It's a split decision!

I think the sweater will go back and I will watch for something else. My instant reaction to was dislike. I thought it was unflattering right away and somehow it actually looks better in the photos than in real life. Also, the sleeves are potentially annoying.

Angie, in looking for something more fitted, I am thinking of ordering one of those JCrew turtlenecks in the chunky knit, like this. What do you think?
