First WIW: Valentine's edition

Hi!
My first ever WiW and a little nervous. Please excuse the slightly awkward expression and the rambling

Decided to plan and cook a surprise meal for DH last night, since we both have been busy and stressed recently. I thought I may as well go all out with red for Valentine's Day!
The dress is a little short from the back (at my current weight and size but I'm working on that). The material is a bit thicker than expected so may not work soon for our hot and humid Mumbai summers, but I really love the colour. The search for the perfect red dress continues...

I added silver earrings which magically go with almost everything and add a teeny bit of sparkle, gifted to me by my mom and also have my thin silver nose ring and anklets on (always on, actually).

Do you lovely fabbers have any suggestions on how to make this dress look less "sweet"?

The dress looks great on you. You could toughen it up with masculine shoes (may be too hot for boots there!). A long angular, modernist necklace might work also. You are very pretty!

Love how the ruffles echo your hair. Nothing wrong with that for Valentines Day. In addition to tough jewelry and footwear, you could try a severe hairstyle like pulled back tight.

Hi! Good post, starts with a great look and has a question about going even better.

The drop waist pretty much rules out belts, but what about a vest with buckles or studs? I like the idea of boots too. If boots sound too warm, you might want to check out Brooklyn's open toe boots in her recent post.

Many sandals have stud or chain detailing that would be a nice counterpoint to the ruffles and still be cooler than boots. Also, a sandal with thicker straps or a chunky sole might achieve the look you are going for. Red is your color.

Thanks so much for the kind words, compliments and suggestions everyone! The last few days were a bit chaotic so didn't get a chance to reply.

shevia - Love the idea of an angular necklace and meaning to buy one too Would be too warm for boots though!

Brooklyn -Spiky earrings would be great I think. Cuffs look really good but I tend to get a bit twitchy with jewellery on my wrists.

taylor - I don't have booties, although I think chunky sandals might work well too.

You look beautiful ! Perfect look for a special night . I agree with others that boots and tights would change the look - but it doesn't really need changing !

In that beautiful shade of red the style doesn't look so much sweet to me, as just very pretty, especially on you. You look beautiful.

If you'll be wearing it in warm weather the only idea I have is maybe less delicate sandals, maybe a wider strap in a brown or natural shade leather.

On the vest, I was being American. I think the Brits call the thing I was trying to refer to a waistcoat. Is that what it's called in India too?

Since you don't like things on your wrists, what about wearing a cuff on your upper arm to look tough?
