suntiger, pretty sure the goal is to not take any masks away from healthcare workers, but to provide some level of protection against droplets. It makes sense to me. If both you and your grocery cashier are wearing masks, that's two extra layers of protection against transmission, even if it's not perfect.
Classically Casual, we just need to look to Asia where they've been doing this for years!
lisap, pretty hard for me to be cool under any circumstances.
notsaf, ooh! that tutorial is great. As it turns out, I have a new bandana coming today--a beautiful hand-dyed silk one from a local maker. https://ozmaofcalifornia.com/p.....na-black-1 Perhaps I'll give it a shot.
UmmLila, in this case, the goal isn't really medical-level protection. I think it's more a shot in the dark at reducing asymptomatic transmission in the community.
rachylou, No N95s, but I actually have a stash of half a dozen or so surgical masks in our emergency supply. It's fewer than our local hospitals will even take as donations, but I'd feel like a chump wearing them outside and appearing to be siphoning resources from healthcare providers. We do have a leather plague doctor mask from the Renaissance Festival. Think that would be overkill?
kkards, the question is...will people keep wearing masks once this is over?
