Festive work dressing - from desk to dinner

I have been enjoying seeing the festive dressing on the forum. I had a work dinner to attend and was not able to get home to change into something special for the party - so my work outfit had to be work and party appropriate.

I wore my new lace shirt with a brocade skirt. Whilst many of the ladies were in elegant dresses, I felt good in this combination and not underdressed for the occasion. Also, we are having HOT weather (like 4 days of over 40C - or 104F) - so staying cool was a priority.

I have been going through a busy time at work. What is it with Christmas that all clients want their projects finished before the break? I have loved reading the many interesting posts on the forum. Toronto Girl's kibbe post had me fill out the questionnaire and whilst I had always thought of myself as being a 'soft classic' I came up as in between 'dramatic romantic' and 'romantic'. I enjoyed wearing this romantic look, but I don't think I will ever abandon the joy of wearing a well cut and structured suit.

Looks very pretty and .. "romantic" . Your style feels like a classic with a softer, romantic undertones - sweet and precious. Lovely blouse - great find!

It’s very beautiful, like so many of your clothes/outfits! And like you! That’s interesting about your Kibbe quiz. It’s actually Theatrical Romantic not Dramatic Romantic, but I fully understand how you mixed those up as I wrote in that thread myself that the *words* Dramatic and Theatrical mean much the same thing to me! But not in Kibbe’s terminology they don’t. Dramatic is much more “Yang” and TR much more “Yin”, in his system.
I also got squarely between Theatrical Romantic and Romantic, and I wouldn’t say your and my styles have *that* much in common?- an overlap of colour maybe, but mine is much more casual and you’ll never find me in a well cut and structured suit! Your lovely outfit here though, I could possibly wear similar and enjoy. Hope you had fun x

I think this is the perfect combination of a soft romantic blouse, with a more structured (dare I say dramatic?) skirt. Maybe dramatic romantic is your style (or at least am element thereof) regardless of Kibbe? YLF Bijou!

i can't imagine looking festive in those temperatures, in fact, i can barely think about wearing anything except a light cotton dress and sandals or a bathsuit. but you've managed to look cool, elegant and put together. Lovely

That blouse is a showstopper! It look so pretty with the printed pencil skirt. Brilliant warm weather festive look--I wonder if it's easier to find sleeved warm weather blouses where the seasons are reversed? Anyway, you look spectacular as always!!

Bijou, I think you are ahead of the curve with that blouse. I’m seeing similar from the 2020 S/S runway shows and in some of the early trend reports. The style suits you, and I totally get romantic dramatic.

Slim cat - the blouse is so pretty. I find white shirts can look severe and masculine on me, so this is one white shirt that is definitely different.

Rachy - I love the softness of the lace on this top.

JanniNZ - the kibbe quiz I took seemed to focus predominantly on the physical and since I am small statured and a small waist and bigger hips these attributes put me into that bucket. You have no idea how much I wanted to click on the long limbed part of the questionnaire! I still prefer the DYOT and dressing in what makes you feel fab is the best solution to style - these formulas are a guide only.

Brooklyn - I don't really understand it either. I am much happier just dressing in what I like. YOU always look amazing and have enviable style - I think you can forget about Kibbe.

Toronto Girl - I like the pencil skirt with this blouse as it keeps it looking professional for work.

KKards - yes, this weather is tough going - especially trying to exercise. I was putting ice packs on my body between breaks in my training sessions.

Kellygirl - it is funny, I sort of hesitated to buy this blouse and now I have it, I absolutely love it and find that I can wear it more than I expected. I am often a bit hit and miss with what will work out being worn regularly.

Carla - that is interesting to know about the new trends. These types of tops, I will be an early adopter if they are trending, but that is only because it is consistent with my style rather than me being fashion forward.

Whatever it is typology wise, this look suits you beautifully and you look beautiful in it. I like how the clean lines of the skirt balance the lace top, but the brocade makes it equally interesting.

Shevia - I bought the skirt on a large discount, but it is proving to be so versatile as I wear it in winter with a black knit and now in summer with white tops. I seem to have a thing for brocade and lace at the moment.

Mainlady - this top would be cool with jeans, I will have to give it a try.

This is great, fun, romantic look that suits you perfectly. Maybe there is something true about Kibbe - I would not be able to wear this look regardless of how much I like it. But I am far from romantic- I got dramatic classic.

Bijou, such a beautiful blouse and it suits you perfectly. The skirt is lovely too. I also love brocade and lace. Your style reminds me of designer Carolina Herrera...classic, romantic, and impeccably dressed regardless of the setting.
