Here's what I wore last night to sing in a performance of Handel's Messiah. I drove there straight from work, no time to change, so I wore it for a full office day as well.
These are the colourful satin pants I thrifted for my sister but they don't fit her yet... I wore them last Christmas twice with various dressier black tops.
This year I went with a sleeveless gold shell, that doesn't get much wear (even compared to my other once-a-year sparkly items) because I need contrast next to my face. For that contrast, I added a blazer with velvet collar. Flat pointy toed booties to finish (we have some snow so the gold tipped d'orsay flats wouldn't do).
I was going to add a sparkly brooch to the lapel at the end of the day but forgot it in the rush. As it was, I was not standing at the very back like usual, I was in a spot where my colourful pants were visible to the audience, so I wasn't just a blob of black in a sea of festive reds and greens.
I left the jacket off at work under my white coat. I wondered what kind of comments I would get, being so unusually dressy (patients do sometimes comment on my attire), but no one said a THING until the end of the day, when I got a compliment on the pants.
What do you think? Did I get away with no contrast at the neck? Was it too dressy for work or too drab for a concert?
