'fessing up about the skirted leggings...

I know I recently pontificated about never wearing too-casual clothes to my company, blah blah blah. Well, I wore my EF skirted leggings on the 5.5 hour -stuck-in the-window-seat flight with two, eh hem, large guys next to me. Those leggings were super comfy.

Arrived at hotel, with 5 minutes to get ready to go to my company's HQ and almost didn't change. But, I did -- just into skinnies and a jacket - acceptable California office wear.

When I arrived I learned that our company had just announced it was being acquired by a multibillion dollar high tech company, and the new head of our division was in the office.

Ladies, I was VERY glad I had changed. I wished I had been in something a bit dressier even, but truly I did not want to meet the new big boss in my (so comfy) skirted leggings. The boss was wearing CA casual - he wore jeans, a v neck sweater and a white open collared shirt to make his first impression on 130 people.

I changed back into the EFSL for the party at my boss's home this evening and felt completely appropriate.

This was a lesson in being prepared and always just a little overdressed, rather than underdressed. I'm definitely upping my style formality at least one, if not two notches going forward with this new company.

I sense intuition at play here, and it worked perfectly for you. It doesn't pay to take chances where your career is concerned, does it? I'm glad you got to enjoy those skirted leggings, though, in their appropriate settings. I don't own any, but I can imagine how cosy and comfortable they must be.

anyway, yes, i agree, i always like to be comfy on airplanes, but i want to be "dressed" when i arrive. glad you had time to change, and that you were feeling comfortable it what you wore for the big meeting.

Funny how life and circumstances can change so quickly and you have to adapt.
All has a time in life.I have to look into skirted leggings if I plan to travel anytime soon, they look like such a good idea.

Glad that worked out for you!

I wore my skirted leggings to work at the radio station last week (with a black and white turtleneck and the long BCBG jacket, and Ugg Cortonas), and three different people asked me why I was so dressed up. Hehe. Later that night I was going to a party, and I switched out the top under the jacket for a bright patterned silk tank top. I loved the way these pieces -- the leggings, boots and jacket -- went from day to night so seamlessly.

My mom used to tell me it's better to be a bit overdressed than a bit underdressed. You just never know what the day might have in store. Glad that you felt good about your appearance for this important, if unexpected, meeting!

The skirted leggings sound like a wonderfully comfy choice for the plane.

Interesting to me that the EFSL worked for the do at the boss'. I'll have to think about my party wear.

Laurie - glad you were comfy and felt appropriate. I, like Janet, wear the EFSL with Uggs Cortonas, the SW Hammer OTK boots or high knee boots, but love the cortonas. I pair them with my Theory Marcela jacket, which is long 33", for work and dressy casual. Of course, they can go more casual as you know with any nice tunic/top/cardigan, but they do suprisingly well dressed up. It's all in the styling. They take up no room in the luggage and are total workhorses!! Enjoy them!!
