Okay, I am very interested in hearing your thoughts and critique on this outfit. I can see it's very matchy-matchy, and maybe a bit aging on me? I'm a bit frustrated, because I feel this is a, for me, very thought out outfit (in my head this is very stylish. I mean, the colors belong to the same palette, and I've even thrown in some pattern mixing and a trendy bag). But in the pictures I feel it looks somewhat dull. How could this be improved? Thanks for any feedback you may have!

I think this outfit looks terrific! I have some thoughts about the difference between what we look like in real-life vs. what it looks like in a photo, which I'll post about at some point, but suffice it to say, I think how you FEEL in the outfit is more important than how it translates into a photo (just my opinion).

I love the quiet palette, the contrast, and the pattern-mixing. If I was being really nitpicky, I might suggest that a slightly bigger-scale scarf would stand up better against the coat, just because it's a lot of solid beige, but that said, this scale of scarf probably looks perfect with whatever you've got on underneath. And that's not to say it looks bad at all; just a larger size might 'pop' more in the photo, if that makes sense.

I think you look FAB.

I was going to say something along the lines of what Torontogirl said. There is something to be said about proportions. The jacket takes up a lot of your frame making the accessories look very small. Maybe they need more heft. I think a shorter jacket would have looked better. I think there is too much neutral tan here and that is probably what makes you think it looks dull.

I like it also. I am not against the matchy matchy as much as some folks are. Sometimes the deliberate- ness of it makes it a wonderful pick. If you feel the need to break up the coat maybe borrow a self belt off a black trench but personally I think what you have is fine.
If you want something more- tomorrow style it with Angie’s green or last weeks post on red accessories. You certainly can do that with your classic jacket.
And try being less critical of yourself in pics because from what I have seen you are doing GREAT!

Thank you Torontogirl, Staysfit and Efbgen. Yes, I see now that my scarf is dwarfed by the long jacket and the other proportions. I can try styling my next outfit with relatively larger accessories. I'm not sure about the colour of my coat, I don't look great in warm colours, and this beige is maybe wrong for me. But it's new and I'm wearing it out of spite, I guess. Lol. Thanks again for sharing your opinion with me!

imo nothing aging about this outfit....i will also say that pattern mixing isn't my strong point, so please take my comments with a grain of salt...i wonder if a solid scarf --and maybe a larger scale (as TG suggested)- would have worked better....i'd think i'd like to see the pants cuffed

Nothing aging about this outfit! Maybe you don't like the jacket, and feel it's too classic.

I’d like to see this with a larger scarf with some texture, in black-white-tan or other warm neutral (beige, taupe). A leopard print scarf might work. To my eye that would allow the beige jacket to blend more cohesively with the rest of your black-white palette. I’d cuff the pants too, or straighten them out over the booties, since the rest of the outfit has sharp, clean lines.

The pattern mixing is cute. I was gonna say, I think you don’t like the jacket... and there you have sorta said it. It’s neutral and is techno gearish. Nothing wrong with that. And you’ve dressed it up nicely. I think you’d maybe like it more worn with what I call Desert Colours - sky blue, pale olives, darker dusty browns - to match the ‘sand and stone’ colour of the jacket. And maybe more gearish shoes. Just a thought.

If you are not crazy about the coat color try a multi colored scarf that includes small amount of coat color plus more of colors to your liking. I think it is a terrific neutral that you can make your own. I think you are under estimating your style skills.
A few years ago I bought a real tan trench that was a huge mistake. Started pairing it with scarf that was tan teal and burgundy- the latter 2 colors being in my wheelhouse. It worked until this year when I bought a new trench in the right color.

Aging? No, not at all. But I wouldn't say trendy, because the jacket is quite sporty and ...sedate /classic is the only word I can think of. That's not a bad thing, per se, but it does keep the outfit from being as trendy as you want, perhaps. The white boots and patterned pants look great - and I agree with the others in that a different kind of scarf (bigger and with a less classic pattern ) would make a difference.

Thanks everyone. This forum never disappoints! I think I have looked myself blind on the jacket, thinking the colour was the only thing that mattered. It is indeed techno gearish (love that term. So accurate) and not as classic as I would have liked. I think I have fooled myself into believing it is a trench, lol.

Hmm, very interesting questions. This doesn't look aging to me at all. The pattern mixing is duper fun and I like the palette. I, personally, would be wishing for a pop of red somewhere -- either scarf or bag. Or even a red jacket! I like colour and very rarely do all-neutral outfits, I've realized. I rather like your tan jacket, the black piping makes it distinctive, but I admittedly have a high tolerance for sporty/gear jackets. It is sort of a tough length, that mid-thigh cut. Too long to be truly sporty, but too short to feel elegant, you know? I think Angie has mentioned in a blog post that mid-thigh coats are the hardest for many people to wear flattery-wise.

Not aging. And now I'm only being picky because you asked. I like the scarf and pants together better than I like the bag with them. I think it is because the black and white is strong together. I'd like a pop of color or neutral or metallic bag.

This outfit is classic and classy. When I read matchy-matchy, I imagined I'd be seeing matching _________(insert color here) shoes, bag, necklace, bracelet, earrings, and possible even matching jacket. I'm in the American South and see a lot of that.

I don’t think it’s ageing whatsoever. FWIW I like the jacket and think the scarf size is fine too. I might try it without the zebra bag though. The slight clash of it next to your pants is drawing the eye to that area rather than on you outfit at a whole. Those boots look great with the pants. I think it’s a cute outfit- and I love the polka dots paired with the boots.

Remove the scarf, remove the bag. Replace with a color blocking solid color purse. Preferably the most simple lines, soft, crossbody, a bit masucline.
Add a beige/cream beanie or even a slouchy,
Add fingerless black gloves.

I think your outfit looks very nice. It is not aging at all. I might change the bag for a red bag.

I don’t think the outfit is aging. There is quite a lot to like here: the colors and the pattern mixing all work together. I think it is the style of the jacket..... maybe worn unzipped would help. The jacket seems like it doesn’t play as nicely in the fashion sandbox as the otht pieces do.

I think overall you are working with good basics, but the outfit needs some tweaking. I agree that the pants seem to be bunching at the ankles so they either need to be shortened or perhaps pulled out over the boots. The bag and scarf seem to both get lost in the outfit. A deeper/richer color and perhaps a plain vs patterned bag would look better. Changing some small details would take this overall look from "fine" to "fantastic".

I like the jacket!
Something about the bag seem not as crisp as the other elements of the outfit so it doesn’t quite stand up to them. I’d replace the bag with something clean-lined,maybe a bright color.

I wouldn't consider this outfit aging, but I think that the beige-ish color of the coat conflicts with the lighter, crisper nature of the rest of what you are wearing and makes the outfit feel "dull" overall. Do you have another coat you can try?

I also feel that there could be fewer patterns in the overall outfit, which might make things feel more cohesive. I would be interested to see what would happen if you removed one patterned item and replaced it with a solid.

You have some very cute items here. I really like the scarf and bag!

Not aging or dull. It looks stylish to me and I love your mix of patterns. I like the color of the coat. You can always add a different color near your face with a scarf or letting the outfit underneath show.
