Love Actually. I know it gets criticized...and also, don't watch it with kids...but I love it for all the different ways and types of love it shows. It's a movie that makes me happy every time.

Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Home Alone....and the animated short of The Grinch that Stole Christmas with Boris Karloff narrating. Just rewatched Love Actually (Diane Sawyer just did a Christmas special about it that I saw on HULU). Yes, not a kid movie (and the fat jokes haven't aged well) but gosh it's got a stellar cast, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy among them. And isn't the point of Christmas to watch kind of "bad movies" anyway? If so, add Bad Santa (I think maybe not great for kids too) with Billy Bob Thornton, Bernie Mac, and John Ritter to your list!

In addition to the above suggestions our family liked Prancer and Muppet Family Christmas. (VHS version has more content than DVD).

Maybe not a conventional Christmas movie, but I love "The Lion in Winter" with Peter O'Toole, Katherine Hepburn, and Anthony Hopkins. It's 1183 and Henry II (O'Toole) releases his imprisoned wife (Hepburn) to attend a Christmas court. Let the scheming and jockeying for position begin. It's the best.

Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie!

I love the Grinch (original animated one) and the Charlie Brown Christmas.

A few years ago we saw Home Alone with the score played live by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (John Williams was actually there which was so cool!) and that was pretty awesome - that bumped it onto my favourites list too

Merry Christmas Mr. Bean is another one ... the turkey scene is the most famous perhaps, but it's him playing with the manger scene for me

I love the polar express. We just watched Home Alone for the first time. My daughter's (8 & 10) laughed so hard they could hardly breath. Mostly for the reason, I really enjoyed this movie (and I can't believe I've never seen it!).

I don’t see it on television these days, but I really liked ‘An American Christmas Carol’ (1979) with Henry Winkler as Scrooge. A creative re-imagining of the Dicken’s classic and beautifully shot.

‘Love Actually’ is probably tops for me these days. I was late to see this 2003 film. Watched it for the first time maybe 5 years ago when DH and I were going through a list of Bill Nighy movies. Stellar ensemble of actors.

The newer (Oscar nominated) ‘Klaus’ (2019 animated) is sweet, and a little sad, and different - but not too different - from the usual Christmas holiday themed shows. FWIW, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a rating of 95%.

Going to the movie theatre with the DS’s around Christmas time to see the Harry Potter movies, and later the Lord of the Ring movies was a family tradition - so a DVD binge of fantasy fare in December and January is a ‘thing’ for us.

Oh! How could I forget the lovely Raymond Briggs ‘The Snowman’ (2012). I bought the score and had my piano teacher tutor me through it . Sadly, Raymond Briggs died this year.

‘Arthur Christmas’ (2011) is hilarious. Another stellar cast of voice actors.

I gotta say Elf is a current favorite -- it does make me laugh every time. And A Christmas Story is classic.

I still need to see Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas! I hear from so many people that it's great.

So... has anyone else seen "Spirited" yet? We really enjoyed it! It's a musical update of the Scrooge story, and I think it was really well done. Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell.

In this household, we're super excited about the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special. It's streaming on Disney+. Our good friends' band (the Old 97s) is the band in the show! The guitar player and my husband have been BFFs since high school.

Here's a song from the movie, with the band playing with Kevin Bacon, who gets kidnapped as a Christmas present in the movie. So fun!

Oh The Snowman! That really takes me back 36 years to when my oldest was little...we had the video, the book and a wind up stuffed snowman that played the song.

And Charlie Brown and Rudolph, we grew up with those.

And Elf, very funny.

I like The Holiday and Love Actually. I do watch a Netflix bad Christmas film each year too! It’s my zone out time. Last year was the Brooke Shields one, this year Lindsay Lohan.

Elf is my favourite. I recently watched Eurovision Song Contest: Firesaga (a Will Ferrell movie on Nexflix) and loved that.
