Angie’s post is timely for me. I got this black faux leather wrap skirt a few weeks ago, and have plans to wear it for the holidays.
I had already been playing in my closet last week, coming up with ideas for outfits with this skirt. Here’s a pretty awful pic of a flat lay that I snapped, just to remind myself — a lightweight navy blue sparkly turtleneck sweater (somewhat sheer so a light layering tank or long sleeve tee goes underneath, depending on temps), the new skirt, and considering boots to accompany it.
I like the idea of mixing textures but staying low contrast with leather bottoms and footwear — for example, black suede with black smooth leather, or black patent with black smooth leather, so it doesn’t look so one-note but is still streamlined. I’d also do a patterned sock boot, like the ones in pic 2 — another flat lay with the new olive faux leather pants.
Pic 3 is a variation on an outfit that I already wore once and will repeat in some form or another for our holiday trip. Just to give an idea of part of my dressy holiday capsule and how I’m working it.
The Ted Baker sweater in Finds would probably work well with the leather skirt too — it’s on the cropped side, which I think will work better than a longer sweater. I also have some silk tops/blouses that do work tucked if I adjust them just right. I have a hard time with proportions with tucked tops, but sometimes with the right skirt, I can pull it off of the waist is not high. Since this is a wrap skirt and fits me a bit lower on the waist (it’s slightly large), I think I can make a tucked top work.
