Faux leather joggers - ETA new size pics down thread

Yesterday I killed a few moments and scored a HEWI (a new white belt to replace my old one, which finally bit the dust decisively as the material tore right through at the hole). I think it was mismarked because it was on a hanger that said “reversible” and size XL, because it seems to be neither. I’m not sure it’s real leather, but it was $10 so worth a try — if it only lasts a year or two, that’s ok.

Anyway, I saw these joggers and felt compelled to try them. Pics 1-5. They are by Blank NYC, who usually fits me well. They are a slightly roomy size M, but I know I can’t size down because they’ll be too tight in the hip for my preference. For this style I prefer a roomier effect, but I’m wondering if the long rise/crotch makes them look too roomy in the front. Does it look like I’m wearing a trash bag? The material is pretty convincingly leather-looking IRL, not cheap and shiny like some, but I have reasonable expectations of faux leather — I don’t expect them to last for more than a few years, and they’re pretty trendy so it’s unlikely I’d wear them for longer than that anyway.

I’m not sure of the look on me. I love the idea of them, and sometimes I just crave some variety in bottoms. Are they JFE? I don’t always trust my eye alone when trying something a little outside my comfort zone. I’m showing them with a tee tucked in just so you can see the fit — I rarely fully tuck unless a layer is going over the top.

Pics 6- While I’m at it, another item that I’m on the fence about. This cute oversized cropped jacket was on sale at Anthro, and I find it appealing *IF* I style it with sleeves rolled/scrunched. I’m not sure about the belt. The elasticized back is really cute and adds a bit of shape even if I removed the belt. The belt is stitched into the waist but could be cut out, or maybe if I don’t want to commit to removing it, I could tie it in back or figure out a way to tuck it away inside the jacket. Thoughts? It’s a jacket silhouette I normally don’t embrace, so again, out of the comfort zone. I tried it on with fitted bootcuts because that seems the most natural pairing.

I'm not the biggest fan of the joggers. They look great from the side view, but I do think the front is pretty voluminous. It could very well be that my eye is unaccustomed, though, so take that with a grain of salt.

I do like the jacket! You're right, better with the sleeves scrunched, but I think you could get away with them down on occasion too.

I really like the jacket, with and without the belt, a little more without. The pants look like they may have too much material, especially in the crotch region, but so difficult to tell from a photo. Your hair is looking fab. Our hairstyles are quite similar now, although mine is quite a bit more curly if I leave it natural.

I guess I am the spanner! I love the pants. They don't look too voluminous to me. I mean...they are joggers after all! The volume looks intentional to my eye.

The jacket seems to have a lot of "if"s, seems like too much work to make it work iykwim. I like the look of it with sleeves scrunched and sans belt. But...what is the PUPY value (channeling suntiger) of that styling in your wardrobe? Seems like if it's cold enough for the jacket it's usually too cold for scrunched sleeves, no? You have a lot of jackets -- when would you choose this one over ones that you already own?

I like the way you styled the joggers in #3! The denim jacket amps things up. Can you try wearing an untucked top with the joggers, Janet? I GET you want something different! We are 18 months into the pandemic.....

I like the lines of the Anthro jacket in #6 and #7 best!

#8 and #9 are cute - belt needs a neat square knot

Oh, I absolutely LOVE the joggers. They do not look too voluminous; indeed, I think they're quite flattering. And the faux leather looks good, not plastic-y.

The jacket also looks good, but jackets like that are common this season. While I would be on board to keep, if you're hesitating because of the belt, I bet it wouldn't be terribly hard to find one without.

Sorry, not a fan of joggers or jacket. The joggers is more, for faux leather or even leather I think you should hold out that something sleeker, but not tight, mighg one day come along where they are outfit- makers and not just wardrobe extras. That’s just me though because I have a problem doing that.
The jacket I think kinda works because you can wear slightly shorter styles well; I just think it is too poufy and too much work for the return. I was drawn to it in Anthro also but know it totally won’t work on me.

I like both items - the pants are just trend that you may enjoy for a while, the jacket is fun ( prefer scrunched sleeves w/or without the belt ).

I really, really like the idea of the faux leather joggers, but I am not sure these are the ones. I’d hold out for something sleeker.
The jacket is really nice and I think it’s very flattering on you, belted and not. Completely agree that scrunching the sleeves makes a big difference!

I like the joggers! Especially as styled in #3, with the denim jacket. It helps to balance what might otherwise seem like a lot of volume. The one thing I might suggest is to do a sit test. Do you get a big "poof" when you do? That might prevent you from wearing them, however good they look.

The jacket is cute, too, but seems a bit too much work, perhaps. I love it unbelted, though, so if it fills a purpose...

I quite like the jacket and would wear that myself . Looks great on you . I have mixed feelings about the pants : I think the style could be good for you , but this particular pair seems unnecessarily voluminous in the crotch and below the waist band . I also think a top that’s a little longer and not tucked in would work better . I have quite a few pair of faux leather pants in different styles and love wearing them in the winter . Spanx makes a nice faux jogger .

The joggers are super fun, I really like them on you. Especially good with the denim jacket. I think they might look great with your Alexander Wang boots and the pointy toes boots Dolce Vita. IMHO - I would prefer them with “sleeker” boots or oxfords, but that is how I would wear them, plus with a blazer

I think the joggers fit you well and work very well with your rock vibes, however when they are worn alone in pic 1, they seem to be out of proportion. With the jacket they work very nicely, though. I like that style on you

Thanks for all the input! A variety of opinions, which reflect my own inner debate.

Yeah, I wish the joggers were less puffy in the crotch. They are fluid enough that they don’t pooch out when I sit, but I don’t love the extra fabric in the front like that. The problem seems to be that a more streamlined fit in front means a tighter fit in the rear, and/or in the thighs, which is not what I really want. I tried the Spanx faux leather joggers at NAS and they fit me like leggings. Definitely not cut for fuller thighs. I may keep an eye out for a different pair.

I like the jacket but I’m a little put off by fussing with the belt. I think I like it better without it. I feel like waist belts are always a little problematic on my squat torso, especially combined with the large patch pockets. The pockets alone I don’t mind. I love the fitted shape in the back — many of this type of voluminous jacket are swing cut, which is kind of meh on me.

Details make a difference!

I quite like the joggers, especially as you have them in #3. You have to be OK with that style I think, they tend to be roomy in the tummy. I'm not sure about the jacket. I like the style and it's fine with rolled up sleeves but I'm not crazy about the sleeves when they are down. It's a lot of sleeve.

I think these are both good wildcards - and you can style them and make them work. My question would be - do you love them, do you really want to make them work….. if so - go for it!!

The joggers look like they don’t quite fit in the front; you can do better. If you knew they were a *10* you wouldn’t be asking here. I guess the question is how much less than a 10 are you willing keep.

As for the jacket: I think my views are very much colored by MY short little legs and long torso and the styles I am forced to wear. This type of cropped jacket is what I would buy. I depend on you and live vicariously through you and your gorgeous long legs to wear long/normal length jackets. Thus, I think the jacket looks disproportionate. But I would like to see it over a dress or skirt and with cropped pants and will then change my mind.

I’m feeling like both are ok but not outstanding. I am thinking return both and keep an eye out for better versions, if they happen to pop up.

I might like the joggers more with different shoes, I think the white sole is throwing me off!
The jacket is better with the sleeves rolled, but definitely a lot with them down. I'd like narrower sleeves more.*
* could be cause my own puffy sleeve try on was not so good, to put it mildly*

I'm a "no" on these - maybe I just prefer faux leather or real leather as leggings or pants - fitted and sleek. The folds and volume seem a bit jarring to me.

I can see you wearing the jogger especially on a work day at your studio, if they are comfortable. Same with the jacket. Both are rather arty pieces on you.

I like the joggers a lot. The material looks luxe - not too shiny, not too dull. But I have high tolerance for volume, harem styles and so on. The jacket doesn't wow me.

I have so much trouble with joggers. They always “fit me like leggings” as you say! But leggings with an unattractive poochy waistband.

These joggers fit you the way they are supposed to, I think. I have a similar pair from a couple years back, but I really struggle with which shoes to wear with them. In the end I find them most useful for deep winter outdoorsy days— they are like water repellent sweatpants and I just wear them with snow boots.

I love the jacket in all its permutations. Definitely refreshing.
