Fall pale neutrals - outfit lab. wiw 10.29.19

This outfit had all the potential in the world, but I just wasn't feeling it today. I can't put my finger on what is wrong - maybe the coat is too traditional and blah? Maybe darker boots? These pale boots started out well a couple of months ago : the are really nice soft leather , and have the perfect heel, but they have loosened a lot after just 3-4 wears, and feel floppy and unpolished on my foot. Frustrating. Are the pants too long , maybe ? Pants and sweater are new this fall : happy with both of these pieces but the overall look is lacking .

Fall nails - done yesterday - in a warm spice, which I really like. Wearing mostly gold jewellery these days: signet pinky ring is from Jenny Bird, and other ring is from Wolf Circus (Vancouver).

cashmere sweater - En Thread - HBC house brand
plaid stitch crease crop flare pants - same as above (find is in another colourway)
purse - old faithful winter Fendi- now 19 years old!
boots - same HBC house brand : En Thread (coincidence)
coat - old Eileen Fischer unlined wool basic

What's wrong here ? Anything come to mind for how I can style this look differently? Thanks in advance for your help. Btw - differenct exposures trying to show colours better - my camera translates colour really poorly into my computer for editing and cropping -too saturated and fuzzy. . Do you all post pics straight from your phone?

Geez Lisa I'm no good because I can't see a thing wrong with this ... It looks so gorgeous. Do you think maybe you're just used to having darker pieces anchoring your looks ... In which case maybe a dark brown boot would look great? But honestly this looks pretty darn flawless to me.

I feel that your beautiful hair and nail polish want something in the same color family - like more intense/darker/brighter colors in the scarf or different color boots. Possibly brooch with some cinnamon, red, gold. I'm sure you have some collection of great accessories to play with - so more pictures please!

This light palette looks absolutely beautiful on you! SOOO flattering and gorgeous with the new hair and your earthy complexion!

I do prefer the palette in #1 and #2. KILLER. It wowed me! Cream is better than beige on you, to my eye. The cream is crisper and more alive. The beige washes out a little - but not bad at all.

That's so annoying about the boots

Pants do look a little long to be cropped - but hard to make an accurate assessment with the camera angle.

I'm with you on the thoughts of the coat. That's what I think is putting you off, as well as the boots that have stretched out. They lack the polish and structure you are used to. Have you tried your citron coat with this - maybe the sleeves of the sweater will bunch under it?

I also agree with Helena. You need to get used to yourself in light colours

I think that you look great but if you want an opinion I feel a slightly darker coat would set the rest of the outfit off a treat.

I’m not going to suggest any changes. I think the light neutrals look beautiful on you. I love your hair and nail color....such great choices for autumn. IMO this outfit should be on repeat.

Lisa, we're Fendi Zucca twins! I purchased mine a few years ago via Real Real. I adore it and won't let it go. (Apparently, they're worth a lot more now.)

I love these colors and the Luxe look of this but I know what you mean - the proportions look off somehow. I think either you need a welt or faux tuck on the sweater, or shorten the pants to show more ankle? Defer to Angie in this one...

Well, the light color scheme really suits you nicely, but I suspect Helena may be on to something since you’re more accustomed to anchoring your look with darker tones, and also I had a reaction similar to Roxanna’s about the sweater (I would probably pair that sweater with full-length pants to balance the volume of it, but that’s me and my reluctance to embrace crops ).

Nonetheless, you look great. Love the nail color. I’ve been meaning to do mine again but I’m so darn hard on my hands.

The light color scheme is unexpected and lovely on you. You may feel better with a bit more color like the citron coat Angie suggests or an orange scarf that blends with your hair and nails. I do post pictures directly from my phone. Too many steps for me otherwise. I love your light colored booties.

Interesting thoughts about the coat and it’s colour . Unfortunately , my citron coat and I split up in the spring . I wasn’t feeling the colour anymore and the quality of that coat was never there to begin ( BR from a couple of years ago ) with and it had started to lose it’s crispness . I am not terribly fussed about the volume of the sweater in this case because I wanted a simple throw on and go look . I had my coat on all day anyways . Sometimes all that semi tuck stuff is too much work

I also appreciate the recommendations for more jewellery - and maybe a darker boot . My fantastic new Vagabond metallic brown patent boots arrived and they were my first choice but I think I need to put an outdoor sole on them . It’s winter here now

Lisa, I really like #1 & 2! I find this coat is too light colored to go with pants. It is about proportions to my eye. A light sweater is less than a half of the outfit, where coat is more than a half and darker pants are caught between lighter coat and boots, if it makes any sense. In other words, a short coat in this color would work, also you might want to try darker boots.

I can’t do semi tucks well - I either tuck or I don’t with rare exceptions.

Yes to what Runcarla just said (and Angie and you and others). I was very into the outfit up until the coat. Maybe it is the color, maybe the lack of structure or cut. I really like the white boots here, your hair and nails and makeup are gorgeous.

I think the proportions are off a little bit. It seems like you are cut in half at the hem of the sweater. I think you need either a shorter top, or maybe hemming the pants a bit so that they are noticeably shorter would fix the proportions.

See ? This is the value of the forum . I wouldn’t have figured the coat for the weak link , but now I absolutely see it . Also adding in some statement jewelry would help . Glad to heat the new sweater meets the colour flattery test Thanks all !

I love the outfit in #1 and #2. The colour is gorgeous on you. Your nails are beautiful. Angie is right about cream vs. beige. I would not have been able to figure that one out.

Agree with everyone’s assessment re: the coat, and I love the nail color...I’m sporting a similar color for the first time ever and I’m loving it for all the fall feels.

The coat is the culprit, too much of beige and knit, and can suck your soul out of it's place- if you don't mind me saying:-). Thus, the outfit underneath is GORGEOUS- don't change a thing, not even the white boots! I suggest a rust or darker brown-olive coat, or a structured trench if it has to be beige. You can add more bling if you want, but love the hair and the nails to it!

I really like the sweater on you, no 1 - 2 look great! The cream is beautiful on you and the whole look is very elegant. I understand that the boots feel unpolished - what a shame, but it is not visible in the pictures, they look good.
As for the coat - I have difficulties to see the colours properly on my screen in these particular pictures, but I like the shape of the coat. Maybe another scarf would help if you feel the colour is too bland on you? Would the McQueen work here?

I love that Angie has sorted you out on the proportions and colours. The new sweater is just lovely. I don't like tucking bulky sweaters either, I just feel a bit weird doing that and don't like the extra bulk on my waistline. Pictures 1 & 2 are just beautiful. The manicure is fantastic and such a nice match with your hair.

Ya....I agree that the coat is the weak link here. It looks a bit drab with this particular outfit.

I'd love to see a semi-tuck and a brown boot as well.
