Fall clothing search questions

As I being to think about my fall work wardrobe (despite the heat warnings where I am today!), I'm having a hard time locating a few things.

1. High-quality tall leather boots with 1-2inch heel, narrow (but not pointy) toe, not too bulky or heavy looking.

2. Lined dress pants! Why do slacks/pants not seem to come with lining anymore?

3. High-quality, not see-through long-sleeve shirts that do not bag out and stretch and are nice enough to wear on their own for work, but also can be layered under cardigans and blazers.

Some questions

For the tall boots. You'll need to know your calf circumference, and what is your height? What colour too. That will help with the search.

FWIW, I have many pairs of dressy trousers, and none of them are lined. I'm curious to know why lined trousers are a prerequisite?

Are you looking for fitted ribbed tees?

1. Narrow foot and calf (14"), looking for black leather (maybe suede); specifically something that I can style with two new-to-me wool skirt suits that were passed down to me from my mother in law (both skirts end just about at mid-calf). I'm fairly tall at 5'8''. I have plans to post some of the vintage clothing she gave me on the forum!

2. For me the lining helps with panty lines/seams from wearing long johns in the winter. I have a curvy shape around my hip/buttocks, and so pants tend to cling no matter their size. Lining reeeeally helps with keeping me looking work appropriate even with curves! I also teach so am facing away from university students, all the more reason to never have any lines showing. I did find a pair just now by Ralph Lauren that seem to be lined but they don't have a long inseam which I need: https://www.ralphlauren.com/wo.....372904.htm

3. Preferably not ribbed; I have in mind a thick slightly stretchy material that is still cotton or wool or cashmere based--lack of sagging is the major requirement

I have a 14 inch calf too. IT IS VERY HARD TO FIT TALL COMFY BOOTS WITH THAT CALF MEASUREMENT!!! It took me 15 years to find them, and you can read about that here. Tall order I'm afraid:

Consider stretchy boots.

Have you tried the RL pants? Their inseams are quite long and can sometimes be taken down too.

Thanks Angie, I haven't tried the RL pants, they say 31" inseam online, but maybe they have large hems that can be taken down.

Narrow feet and calves is TOUGH!! That's how I first started following the blog many years ago, the narrow shoe search:)

Narrow feet in closed shoes like boots can be doctored with insoles that take up space. I've become a master at that! The too wide calf fit is almost impossible. Don't have boots custom made either - I did that. DISASTER.

I have 14" calf as well and it took me years to find a pair that was mid-heel and comfortable. I hope you will find what you're looking for.

Talbots? They used to line all of their trousers that were full length. The Hampshire pant comes in a lined version, and I think at least one of their wide leg pant styles is also lined.

Wow, lined trousers! I remember even Anthropologie offered some good-looking lined trousers 20 years ago. I have no need for them (nor did I back then), but I remember appreciating the workmanship and quality. Times have definitely changed. Good luck with your search!

Roberta makes a good point about Talbots. I'd try Brooks Brothers too. Sometimes, Ann Taylor has lined trousers.

I totally get what you're saying about trousers with lining- I also teach & have an ample backside lol, & all of my lined bottoms were thrifted. I have found wearing slipshorts as underwear to be a good compromise under modern styles of trousers.

My slipshorts are from Intimissimi & Uniqlo (the lace top makes them seamless), but I have also heard good things about the Snag Tights (UK) & Thigh Society (CA/ USA) brands.

Last year I looked for lined wool trousers and did not find any. I used snow pants instead to stay warm.

I'm sure there are more, but I'm encouraged by what I've been finding thanks to hints here as to where to look! I also need a tall inseam (or long hem that can be let out), and curvy fit is ideal, but tailoring can work. As @Zaeobi noted too, wearing supportive garments is something I currently do as well for unlined pants.

@Stella, with my body type clothes can cling to my behind very easily even when the cut is not designed to be bodycon, which can also lead to visible panty lines and just a look that I'm not comfortable with while teaching university students.
