"Fall 2012 is Kid in the Candy Store fashion season!"

This was the reply from forum member, Nancy (Mochi) on the YLF facebook page yesterday after I said:

"There is just TOO MUCH that I want this season. Honestly, I can't remember a fashion season that was more up my style alley than right now".

I 100% agree with Nancy - who 100% agreed with me :).

Anyone else feel the same way?

Yes, I feel the same. I feel that stores are full of great colors, great blazers, great dresses, great pants.
I have never seen so much teal, purple and burgundy and I am loving it.

And I also noticed people around me dressing less black this season.

I do think its a great season with lots of eye catching pieces. Surprisingly I haven't indulged in anything yet.

Hmm, I don't feel that way. I have found some things I love, but no more than in previous Fall seasons. This in itself is telling and I'm going to ponder the why on the way to work.
If I have any insight, I'll be back.

Completely agree! I love fall in general but jackets and sweaters and booties... oh my! I only wish my clothing budget was bigger

It's funny because I initially thought this season was gonna be bad for me. I'm a cheap and cheerful shopper and look to my favourite knock-off places to help me stay somewhat current. The way JOE styled their homepage and the clothes at Zara in late August - all these dark solids, specifically hunter green and burgundy, that just looked so terrible around my face. However, I've embraced animal prints, mustard, skinnies and flats (finally), and am excited about booties (but haven't found any to love yet). I think what I've learned is that there are generally lots of options and I'm not stuck with the first look the stores show.

Well I don't know much about the fashion scene, but I know a lot of my fav stores have a TON of clothes I love....so yah I probably feel the same!

Yes! I am really enjoying all the colors and prints and varying silhouettes I see this season. In the past it's always felt so drab, the same ol' black, grey, and navy blue. All the brights make me happy. All the prints are really fun. And the best part is, if you are a mood dresser, with all the varying shapes to pick from, one day can be baggy, the next form fitting, it's great!

I have been loving all the colors this season, but have had trouble finding the things I really want! I am on the hunt for a grey blazer that is NOT short with no luck yet!

Hmm. Well, for me, it feels like fashion has been a wasteland for just aeons and I've spotted a cactus finally. Call it a new chi-chi candy store where they've put single bonbons on stands and spotlighted them.

Looking at spring next year... if it weren't for Angie's distillation earlier, I'd be full of foreboding that it's all been a mirage. Because I didn't like the S/S 2013 shows at all.

Ive seen a lot that I like, but have only gotten 3 items since summer, mainly because of all the mistakes Ive made and dont want to repeat...so Im admiring, from afar....

Huh....interesting! I hadn't thought of it that way.

In the last year or so since I've been active on the board, I've been making notes but only recently made a major update to my wardrobe (mostly at the NAS). So I've been enthused about shopping but put it down to my timing rather than the superior offerings this season...

It's funny: I haven't really thought about clothes/style, or bought anything, over the last few weeks because I've been consumed with the presidential election :). I have zero interest in fashion right now, which is wild for me. I'm waiting to see if my interest picks up after the election is over...

Oh my YES, I agree 500%!! Every day I see something I have wanted for ages now suddenly pop up. The silhouettes, styles, colours, fabrics, patterns... all seem to be right up my alley this year. It is a FANTASTIC season, and I'm finding it quite hard to make a selection. (feeling quite greedy, I want it all;-)

I have been trying to practice some restraint, since, as Rita mentioned, I already have a full and fab closet. Fortunately, some pieces I already own are in line with the current trends. I did succumb to some new booties since my boot collection was much more full of tall boots, and I'm enjoying booties in the transitional fall weather.

Well, I can say that the colors of the season are right up my alley (burgundy and teal, oh my!), which is leading me towards experimenting with silhouettes I might not otherwise try.

Me! Fortunately, I seem to have most of what I've been wanting in SOME form, and I'm trying not to browse! I had a pair of burgundy booties already, which was nice. For me, the best analogy is "like me in a clothing store".

ETA: Angie, I'm curious since you've mentioned how your style has evolved since I've been on the forum: would this season's offerings have appealed to you equally 5 years ago, or in other past seasons? Or is it a happy confluence of your current tastes and the current fashions?

For me, so many items right now are reflecting the tastes I've ALWAYS had, making me realize that often things I thought were "me" only seemed that way because the other options just weren't readily available.

My dominant season is autumn (and winter), so it's hard for me to distinguish between a general love for the season's items and the items available. But off the bat, I have to say I'm loving the soft whites, the textures (come to me, chunky jumpers!), the booties, and rich reds like burgundy!

Oh, yes! I want daytime clutches, snakeskin print booties, more trousers, burgundy and cobalt anything, a lace top... And now I want to explore those cropped sweaters that you blogged about today. It's hard to decide where a limited budget should be spent. I hope the trend will continue.

I've not had much luck this season, although I'm not buying much because my life is kind of in-flux and I'm not sure if a move, or a change of work is coming in the next year.

I hope to have some time to get out there are really look, since the colors and the proportions are good for me this year.

BTW ---- In response to Jonesy, I'm actually spending more time in my closet remixing to AVOID the political frenzy.

I've bought a lot of great pieces this season, but much of it has been from prior years through flash sales and consignment shops. I have bought a few current pieces but it has been difficult because brands are cheaping out on fabrics. Even $200 doesn't always get you an acrylic-free sweater. The wool or wool-blend sweaters I do find seem to be rather sheer. Just yesterday, Corporette posted about a beautiful $350 Basler blouse -- but it was 100% polyester!

I'm going to join the "huh, really?" crowd. I'm not seeing so much that is different this season from last, except the combinations in Lucky Magazine are getting less wearable.

I agree. That's why I've only bought x3 items for spring/summer I'm holding out for our Australian winter clothes - there is more blue & grey:):):):)
