Failed Leather Skirt Experiment

I'm feeling so disheartened. The leather skirt I ordered simply did not fit right (I wrote about it at http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-yes-or-no). It fitted like a pencil skirt instead....so I ordered a size bigger in the hope that the A-line shape might be exaggerated on a looser skirt. It wasn't. It just fit odd - kind of bunched up under the waistband, but still very much a pencil fit.

I don't think I want an ill-fitting leather skirt. So back it goes. Sigh.

On the other hand, I ordered another skirt along with the larger size. This skirt isn't all leather; it has some leather trim. It's a thick winter skirt and I believe it fits better. Is this a better choice to wear with fleece lined tights and a black moto jacket this winter? I do have knee high black flat boots.

What do you guys think?

I don't have a leather skirt but imagine if they fit wrong then they REALLY fit wrong. What a shame!!

I think this skirt is very cute - and I think a flowy/chunky sweater/jumper and boots would look great with it.

I guess it is just whether you want to hold out for a leather one, or is it more a fun smart casual short A line skirt that you want. Personally I think I would prefer the one pictured but I am not much of a leather on the bottom half person (for me, love it on others).

Geez that skirt is super cute on you! You are going to keep it aren't you? Definitely think it would work with a sweater, tights and boots (ankle or knee high). It's a shame about the leather one. But you know what they say about a bird in the hand.

I am sorry the first skirt didn't work out for you. This one looks great though. It fits well and would be the perfect accompaniment to wear with tights and moto jacket.

Oh, I adore that skirt and it looks fabulous on you! I think it's so much more interesting than all leather, and the lines are great. I think it will pair perfectly with a motor when all leather might have looked a bit costumey. KEEP this one, it's meant for you!

Aliona, I agree. The more I thought about my winter wardrobe (which is in storage right now) I realised that I have tons and tons of flowy and fitted black toppers to wear with the skirt. Sweaters, jackets, moto, poncho, coats - I have them all! So I guess this patterned skirt with a bit of leather is A BETTER FIT into my wardrobe and my style aesthetics. It's the shape and cut that I was after, and I have it all here. When paired with a black top, black tights and black boots, this skirt will easily become the star because it's 'not all plain black leather'.

And to be honest, wearing leather on my bottom half didn't feel like 'me'. I felt like I was trying to be cool( the keyword - trying).

So I suppose, I'm more than happy with this skirt!

Thank you all for agreeing and adding more points to the 'keep' list. This skirt is terribly cute and it stays --- this is the *very* silhouette I was after!

More love from me for this skirt on you, Maneera! It is SO cute and seems so you! At first I thought this was the skirt that you were returning and was very glad when I read your post again and saw you are keeping it!

Keep looking for your leather skirt. I want one, too, and have tried a couple but haven't found the right one yet. The fit really has to be perfect, I've decided, especially with leather.

I like it too - and think it will be easy to wear ...especially popping a long, looser sweater over top. How did it do in the "sit test"?

You don't need my feedback now - but I still love this! It fits perfectly, and I like the pattern, especially since you have a lot of solid black to wear with it. Bummer about the leather skirt, but I also hear you about it not feeling quite right. I have a faux leather a-line skirt, and I go through long spells where I'm just not up to wearing it.

LisaP, it did well in the sit test. I'm glad that this is a hardcore winter skirt. It's much too too thick for summer - the patterned fabric turned out to be a thick tweed. Since it's a winter fabric, it will always be worn with warm, opaque, fleece lined tights. And it doesn't ride up like more fitted skirts, thanks to the A-line shape. I highly doubt I'd wear a summer skirt this short

I like this one a lot. I think leather trimmed skirts are easier to wear than full leather skirts -- it's easier to wear a leather jacket or tall boots with them without looking like you're trying to join a biker chick gang. This is a great look on you!

This is fabulous, Maneera. You will have a lot of fun with this during the winter, and I do think it's more versatile than leather, since you already have lots of black toppers.

I think it looks great. Too bad your original idea of a leather skirt didn't work out. I like this one very much and think it will look better with black boots and a black leather jacket.

The skirt is really cute, but doesn't have quite the same vibe as a leather skirt.
I do think it's a better choice to wear with a leather jacket, since a leather skirt+leather jacket= a lot of leather!

Sorry the all leather one didn't work out, but I LOVE the tweed (?) with leather trim. It's like prim (tweed) does rough (leather). LOVE the combo and really like ti with the booties too!

I like it and think Janet makes a good point. Sure, if you find your dream leather skirt you should buy it, but if you like boots and booties then the tweedy fabric works really well and also isn't super blackout with the black tights, but goes well..
