This is not my most successful outfit ever, but it was fun to wear, so what the heck. I pilfered this navy turtleneck from my husband's side of the closet, and when I pulled it on with the skinny jeans, I thought, "Hey! I'm a beatnik!" I don't have ballet flats or loafers, so substituted my black brogues and rolled my cuffs a few times. I added an Afghani lapiz pendant, which admittedly is more 70s than 50s, but I was going for fun rather than authenticity. For an outer layer I used this heathered navy cutaway cardigan, which pretty much killed the while beatnik thing, but it was wonderfully cozy for hours of dissertating. The whole thing is actually navy (turtleneck, jeans, cardigan), rather than the black that it seems in the photos.
Feedback always welcome, but remember, this was for fun, not necessarily style.
