Express tops in pretty black and white print

For those who - like me - admired the pretty black and white scarf Tanya recently got at Express (in her gift card purchases post), I noticed that Express also has various tops in that print. Antje, I tried on the cowel neck black and white floral top last week. I wanted it to work, but it didn't, sadly. Hopefully you'll have better luck. It's really pretty.

Sure, Antje. I'm not 100% sure why, though. It was one of those things...I looked in the mirror and it just looked "off". It make me feel large and shapeless. Maybe it would have been better to try it with a jacket before dismissing it all-together.
I got two pair of trousers with my Christmas gift card, but I'm contemplating returning one pair and trying this top again. I do want it to work, I really do. I might try on the other styles also. I love cowl neck, though.

I wish the cowl neck top came in solid colors. I really want to find one to wear under my tweedy butterscotch jacket.

EDIT: Oh, I just found out it does, but not cream though. Maybe I'll try solid white or the teal color.

Thanks Sarah! I would plan to wear it under a cardi or jacket, so I will make sure to wear one on my shopping expedition. I hope to go on Friday - and found a few other things I want to try at Express. Can't wait, I haven't been shopping in a while except for a very breezy visit to Gap last week to pick up a denim skirt.

Matti, welcome. I hope you will enjoy this forum, it is a lovely and supportive place. I like the cardigan too. Hmm, now I will have to decide between it and cowl top since I do not want the same print on two different tops.

I hope that the cowl neck top fits well. If it does, I might stock up on couple of different colors, it is perfect for layering.

I actually tried on a black and white pencil skirt at Express yesterday, Angie. It has sort of an abstract "plaid" type print and I loved it immediately. I decided not to get it because the plaid lines sort of bowed out around my hips and then went back in. I'll have to take a photo because it's probably in my head, but it kind of made me feel very hippy, and hardly anything does that since I sort of tends toward an inverted triangle. That's the only one I've seen, though. I will look for more, because I really want a black and white print pencil skirt! Express pencil skirts always seem to fit me perfectly too, other than being too long.

Good to know, Ana. I have not had that skirt on anyone yet (desperately trying to put cold weather clothing fires out first).Wonder what Antje will think of it. Express pencil skirts fit me well too

They fit me well in general, too. I've loved the two Express pencil skirts I bought in fall and wear them often. I'll try the new one out, ladies, and will report back, probably Friday, promise!

I couldn't wait, and since I went to J Crew tonite anyway to try on the denim skirt, I also went to Express to check out the pencil skirt Angie mentioned and the black and white print tops.

The pencil skirt (which is indeed not online) is wonderful and I bought it. The pattern is great, it'll look wonderful with brightly colored tops, I'm thinking of looking for a really rich green one... red and cobalt will also coordinate fabulously. And the fit was perfect. I'll post a picture later this week.

I looked at various styles of tops in the black and white print fabric, but didn't find any that worked. They didn't have all of the styles that are online I liked the cowlneck one with the banded bottom, but I couldn't think of enough ways to wear it and decided I didn't need it so passed...

Thanks for posting the update, Antje! I'll give it another go and post photos here for opinions. I don't know what it was about the skirt on me, I just felt it was off, but like I said, it might just be in my head. I'm not used to wearing printed skirts.

How was the denim skirt at J. Crew?

Speaking of pencil skirts, I tried this skirt on in green this evening:

I'm not interested in the green color, I really want it in black and one in white (I really wanted the red, but oh well). Anyway, just wanted to add it's a great skirt, if anyone is looking for a spring/summer pencil skirt. It's fully lined, so I'm especially excited about the white color--those are harder to find than you would think.

Oh, the red is sold out online, and I haven't seen it in store yet in any color other than green. I'm waiting and holding thumbs it is available in the store in red, but we'll see. The black and white are still there, and I am planning on buying both of those colors.

Ana, Express has something called Fashion Delivery - you show them the item in the store and tell them which size you need and than they search all of their stores and if they find it they ship it to you for free.

Otherwise, what size do you need in that skirt? If I see it here in Boston I can pick it up and mail it to you.

Oh, thank you Tanya! Actually, I used to work at Express, so I thought about doing fashion delivery, but I don't think the stores have actually received the colored pencil skirts in yet. I think they are just starting to. I still have friends who work there, and asked them, and this is about what they told me (freight comes in waves anyway, so items trickle in, and not all stores get them at the same time). I've been into the stores a couple times this week to ask, and I just checked the really big Express here in Austin that gets everything first, and they only had the green. So, I think I just need to wait. But if I don't see the red come in, I'm definitely going to see about ordering it through Fashion Delivery or some other method.
