Today I got lost among old family photos. I’m going to share a few with you—I hope you enjoy Easter Fashions over the years.

#1-4 Looks like a party. Bearded gentleman on my far left is my Great-grandfather. Behind him my great-grandmother. They immigrated to the US in 1884. Ggpa as a younger man. Some of my nieces and nephews have some of his facial features. Ggma around the same time as the first photo.

Maybe it was a wedding celebration in #1. If I'm right, my Dad (the baby) would have been the right age for an Easter photo in #4. Note the Easter bonnets. That is my grandmother's sister and her husband.

# 5-6 My grandparents at the state capitol grounds. They lived 2 blocks away. Early color photo taken by my aunt.

##7-8 A couple of years later. Also capitol.

#9-13 With sisters. Maybe the old Kodak died around this time. Can't find more Easter photos until Dad got a slide camera.

##14-15 My friend and I made our own Easter dresses after taking sewing in school. My sister and her friends. I think this is the same year, mid-50s.

#16 Last family Easter photo. I made that pink suit myself. My nephew would be born a few weeks later. I'm not sure it's Easter, but soon after this photo my nephew was born and my sister and her family moved to California.

I did do a WIW today and will post it later.

Wow, it is amazing how specific the styles were. I wonder if pictures from today will be as identifiable. My guess, despite the diversity of trends and style, is yes !

Thank you so much for sharing these family photos. The older people look my grandparents and their siblings. Your grandmother looks just like my great aunt Hildur who emigrated from Sweden. Your grandfather looks like my great uncle Adolph, also Swedish.

Happy that you are enjoying these. I’m the trustee for my parent’s’ estate so have custody of many of these photos, so I’ve scanned them. Many of the older ones from my Dad’s side are scans sent to me by my cousin. Some I haven’t looked at closely for a long time, so I’m noticing details I missed before.

I liked family history but later tried to learn more after Mr Maven became fascinated and started visiting older relatives to record their stories. He didn’t know much until the fall of the Soviet Union when records became available. He had ancestors from Latvia and Poland. The descendants who didn’t emigrate died in the Holocaust.

That was hid father’s side. On his mother’s side he enjoys debunking family myths. He was visiting Latvia when he got the news that his older half sister, who had been adopted out at birth, had found her birth family!

Thank you Ms Maven! The first one is especially interesting, photos of that time can be so stiff and formal but in this one they look just like real people haha.

There's the image of a baby hovering over the woman in the center, is the photo a double exposure?

Phoebe, I'm not certain about that photo. I don't have the original--I'm going to ask my cousin about it.

Lovely photos, it is interesting at how casual our dressing has become. These photos prove the power of a well tailored coat.
