I'm struggling with looking stylish in this horrible cold winter we're having in NYC but as a stylist who is trying to build a business here, I have to look good. I am cold blooded, being seriously freezing pretty much all the time, even with lots of layers on. These are some of my attempts at styling for cold weather...
I've also been on a bit of a menswear inspired kick recently as evidenced by looks 1 & 2. What do you think?

Your looks are amazing. My favorites are 2 and 3. Those neutrals look so sophisticated on you. Do you have a long puffer to wrap up in when you are outside?

Joy, last year when I moved back to the US (and winter) I resisted the puffy coat. I did buy a shorter one that just covers my bum. This year I regret that decision and wish I owned an outdoor blanket or "sleeping bag" coat. BUT I can't afford a new winter coat and I have at least 5 of them so I'm doing the layering thing, which is really in right now. Today it was my short down vest over my long wool coat. It was actually warmer!

I'm 5'4". Those are Fergie suede wedge boots I bought at Burlington Coat Factory last Fall.
For the rest of the look:
Nautica white button down from TJ Maxx
Black silk tie from Indochino
Black silk blend (thin) sweater from Muji
Grey vest from H&M
Black skater skirt from Cotton On
Grey fleece lined leggings from Duane Reade / Walgreens

So you can see I was wearing a LOT of layers but was actually fairly warm.
As far as can you wear it? I would not normally advise exactly that look for an inverted triangle cause it's pretty top heavy but a skater skirt would be an excellent piece. You might just not layer the top so much.

Awesome! You might want to invest in some silk long underwear to help keep you warm. It's superthin and can add another layer without being bulky. I've gotten some from WinterSilks.

Your looks are amazing! I like how you have a wide range of styles shown here. All of them are fab!

Fun looks! And layering is absolutely the best way to deal with this insanely cold weather we've been having. My favourite is #2, because it's so spunky (and you wear the hat so well) but 1 and 3 are close behind. It looks as if you like to vary your style from day to day. Eclectic fables.

I love your looks with the waistcoats! I want your #1, absolutely. I haven't been able to find a suit/co-ords with a waistcoat in years. I can't tell you how sad I was when all such outfits of mine stopped fitting.

I also adore your last, colourful one. I like how well the fabric-weights of the individual pieces match up.

I confess that #3 is probably too boho for me... although I see where I should steal some ideas from it, hehe. You've got a great eye!

Thanks everyone! Even though I am a trained stylist, I still have many issues getting dressed, especially in a new city & with cold weather.
But I'm not afraid to take risks, which I always encourage for others too. Plus, since I'm building a new biz, I can't really afford to go shopping so I'm trying new combos.
And I'm just starting to get comfortable with photos. I'll keep practicing. It's probably one of my biggest challenges. I think I'm going to start adding my outfits to my blogs so all of your thoughts and opinions are great as I prepare to share with the whole world! (kind of scary)

Sunee, if you search the forum archives, you may find some posts about how to take the best pictures. I don't know for sure (I don't have a camera so can't take pix!), but it's worth a try and might save you some trial and error.
