Dressing: How is your home affecting your...

Stay At Home outfits. I was just thinking about this because I’m living in a 100 yr old house. It’s not a warren of rooms with small doorways... it’s not 200 years old... but neither is it open plan. It’s dark inside. You sorta have to move carefully. I tend to wear two sweaters, fitted clothes, and house shoes - and shuffle around with a cup of coffee...

I don't think this is quite what you are asking, but my first wfh week was last week and the biggest change was that it was hot. 36 degrees. Even with aircon our house is much warmer than my office. So I wore my two sleeveless dresses that I am already over since its the end of their third summer.

I’ve barely gotten dressed and find I have a recently acquired pride in my colourful pajama pants! The single day I put pants on in a week my son asked what the occasion was. Hilarious! I’ve now started hunting for additions to my collection. I complete my look with a tank top and a huge robe which I can quickly whip off if a hot flash strikes. Plus - very large fuzzy slippers. Tomorrow I will post a pic of my pant collection:)

DH is always opening windows because he runs hot and I run cold so it's sweatshirts and cardigans for me and tees and shorts for him.

We set the thermostat at 66 in winter, so I wear warm clothes in the house. I see people going sockless, and no way I can do that. I wear fleece or a sweatshirt every day. Yesterday it snowed off and on, making it feel even colder.

It's been warm here, so it's shorts and flipflops for us. We are also wearing our favorite tees. The one I wore today says "Take me to Paris." This is what's passing for entertainment right now. I, too, am wandering around with my coffee. Wandering and wondering...how did we come to this? And other existential dilemmas. The new normal, if you will.

Anne et al... Actually, now that you mention it... temp is a big one. I haven’t worked in an office building in a few years now, and my enormous collection of turtlenecks is going unworn. And I only wear my Heattech thermals in actual winter now. And with this lockdown and not being able to go anywhere when I’m not at the bakery... well, I’m really noticing how hot my bedroom gets. It’s all windows (the one exception to the darkness). Well, ok, I knew that, but going from bedroom to sitting room is a steep drop in temperature. The sweaters come on and off all day. They HAVE to be cardigans.

Anyways, it also dawned on me I was more willing to wear flowier, more oversized things in my previous dwellings. They were more modern. The spaces were more open, even crammed with my junk.

My house has fairly good temperature regulation. If it’s sunny late in the day, the upstairs and back side of the house get warm, because there are numerous large windows, but it’s not too bad. DS room stays a few degrees colder or warmer than the rest of the house but he never complains. He and DH have been walking around in tees and jeans since starting our WFH life. The only item I have altered for WFH daily wear are my shoes. No heels. I have hardwood or tile everywhere, so sneakers have become my go to. I like the supportive cushioning when I stand at my sit-stand desk. They prevent me from sliding on the floors.

The thing that I’m really enjoying about WFH is the sun light streaming through our windows - but it does mean I need to have layers I can peel on and peel off!

Our house is cold most of the year (north/northeast windows), so it’s heattech baselayers plus a pullover sweater and socks with slippers indoors. I freeze at my desk!

In summer, the upstairs gets hot in the afternoon, and we don’t run the A/C much, so sleeping comfortably is a challenge.

Haha, I just posted that this week I gave up and stayed in my dog walking sweats. I had to add cardigans for warmth and to show up on tele conferences. I wear socks and slippers all the time at home because I hate to step on things and hate cold feet!

I don't like wearing my regular clothes in the house at all, or even my nicer gear, cause I don't want to mess them up. Cooking, cleaning, and cat wrangling/ medicating is dirty work! Not to mention claws. Temperature isn't an issue cause I keep the heat 70-75
And yes to windows Jane! I loooove working in my light, bright house- and my "coworkers" are cuter!

Like Bonnie, DH is always opening windows. He thinks it is Spring and he should be out doing stuff in our small yard. There is an accumulation of new snow from yesterday and the ground is probably frozen .He runs warm and I am cold, dressed in layered sweaters over thermals with wooly socks and snow boots by the door ready for dog walking. I get dressed in regular clothes each day because it adds a bit of normalcy. The house is mostly one large open space and has lots of windows to look out at the snowy trees and yard.
I am doing a 1000 piece puzzle that was a gift from Christmas and has an extra challenge in that there is no picture of what it is supposed to look like when finished.
I am grateful for this blog. It is a cheerful escape. I hope everyone is staying well. Fashion wise, I am wondering what to wear and do about Easter. We are expected to have a special dinner and egg hunt for the grandchildren. I should be working on it and shopping for stuff for baskets but doubt it is going to happen and can:t shop anyway.

I also live in a building that’s 100YO, it’s drafty. I’m working in the dinning room instead of the spare room/office because the WiFi is better (should have remedied this before) and I’m using a space heater instead of heating the whole apartment and/or having to pile layers on. Mostly I’m reaching for my full length boyfriend jeans, they just look better with my slippers!

I live in a ~15yo open-concept contemporary on 5 acres, built with passive solar design in mind, so the main living area is very open with lots of light. The bedrooms and bathrooms face north so are a bit darker/cooler. It's that weird time of year when we build a fire at night because it's still dipping down below freezing, but don't really want to rebuild it in the morning because the sun will warm everything up by mid-day. Days when it's cloudy/rainy feel sooo chilly because of the moisture in the air.

I'm re-wearing clothes a lot to minimize laundry. It is still too cold to hang it outside and the indoor space where I usually hang it to dry is now my workspace. Now that my school is closed through the end of the semester I've put all my nicer work-only clothes in the back of the closet and am only wearing my casual/weekend clothes; that way I can go out and work in the garden or walk the dog on the muddy road whenever the mood strikes. Most days are a mix of hoodies, flannel shirts, tees, jeans, sometimes hiking pants or tights, trail runners, muck boots. Lightweight down vest is a serious MVP; I wear it almost daily. Very happy I have slippers to wear in the house because it's still cold enough that the floors are chilly. I spend a couple hours in plain old sweats in the morning and evening because my 6yo says jeans and hoodies with zippers aren't good for snuggling.

Also in a nearly 100 year old home here, so not an open floor plan, but the rooms are fairly spacious for the four of us to be here. I’ve lived in older homes or apartments for my entire adult life- all a little drafty, with “good enough” retrofitted HVAC. The biggest change for me is that my weekend wardrobe of jeans, knit tops, and sweaters has become every day wear. I’m also trying to figure out my new normal for gear, given my completely different patterns for exercise.

My high school beau, his grandparents lived in a house that was 1000 yrs old. I mean, literally, William The Conqueror slept there. That was interesting. It was damp...

My usual pyjamas consist of a tank top, ankle fitted trousers, a cardigan & a scarf. I've taken that same formula for my WFH outfits - I'm forever taking off & putting on layers to keep myself comfortable. My desk is by the window, so the scarf is a lightweight drape when the sun blazes as I'm teaching. Cardigan & Scarf are useful for my daily walks, when my partner wants to crank up the AC in the other rooms, & for not feeling exposed in front of my in-laws.

It's been a bit of an adjustment from living alone before!

We live in an open loft style apartment with 25 ft ceilings. No doors accept for our bedroom and bathrooms. Very warm when the sun shines - which isn't that often in Seattle unless it's Summer. We are comfortable with the heat on at the moment. Our usual cold Spring, and I always run cold. We wear knitwear at home. Blankets at night.

We’re hunkered down in a house in a rural community away from Seattle. The clothes I keep here are mainly gear or my most casual, as well as warm clothes. I couldn’t emulate Angie’s OOTD outfits if my life depended upon it! But I certainly enjoy seeing them! I’m in layers most of the day, especially if dog hair counts as a layer.

We live in a 30yo post-and-beam contemporary house in the woods. Lots of windows and not much in the way of window treatments since we back up to 100 acres of woods, so lots of sun comes in during the day. It’s an open floor plan with high ceilings, so it can be a little tricky keeping the temp regulated. I tend to keep the thermostat at a moderate level and add or subtract layers as needed. But the main thing about our home that drives my stay-at-home wardrobe is our three dogs. Two are large and can be boisterous; one is small and a clingy little mama’s girl so she always wants to be on my lap. Dog hair and claws are a constant factor at home, so I don’t wear my nicer, more snaggable items to hang out at home. I’m kind of sad looking at my wardrobe, wondering when I’ll get to actually wear any of my fab stuff again.

Not quite the home per se, but we live in a very friendly community and the houses are quite close together ... so I have to make a bit of effort because I WILL be seen by someone, even if through the kitchen window to the back neighbour!

I got caught off guard today by DH who managed to find TP (!!) and didn't want to have to walk home with it ... I hopped in the car in navy printed jammies, and red hoodie, white gym socks and black sneaks haha ... I had to run to avoid being seen!

I would to see pics of your houses! I live in a cookie-cutter 1950s rambler. My main problem is letting my kid in and out all day long and making sure he doesn’t get too close to his friends, so sadly it means I have to wear a bra.

90+ year old house. I run cold. We used to set our thermostat to 62 during the day, but I am finding myself turning it up to 64 or even 66 when it is damp out. I wear layers, including turtlenecks despite a short neck, always socks, and sometimes boots. Now that I shop for food during Senior Hour, I am learning to dress more warmly since the queue up outside can be long. Sh-h-h. Since I need to get at Safeway by 7, I have taken to the preschool trick of wearing to bed what I will be wearing in the morning. Then I just need to pop on my jacket and boots, run a comb through my overgrown hair, and be out the door and pray that I don’t see anyone I know.

We just got a shag area rug, and boy, does it shed. I also go out in the backyard a lot and the trees are shedding. These days at home, I like wearing things I can brush off easily, like jeans.

Well the weather is taking its time to warm up here - I am waiting for it to be consistently in the 80s which is my favorite. We live in a 30-40 year old renovation of an older house. Not well insulated and I turn on the room heater when I am cold. Being cold makes me feel stressed and I am doing my best to limit stresses right now. We are very fortunate to a have a tiny by American standards, but generous by Israeli, yard for us to pace in as we are now restricted to 100m from our house.
