It's not been the best week around here, personally. I turned 59 on Tuesday, and it was very reflective day. Life is tough right now, to be honest. Tough in the big picture of the world and it's problems ? No. But tough in my world. My two jobs are still very much in flux and not producing a cent of income, and at this age? Well, it's a lot to process and figure out where the future lies. Thank goodness for good health and my family around me , but man, I wish things were different in this economy.

I had to get out of the house today just for a change of scenery and to try to jolt myself into some better state of mind . I am also sick of my denim shorts and t-shirt uniform of late , so dress-up Friday it is!

This is what I consider on the dressier side for my job and lifestyle. Soft flowy fabrics which feel good against the skin, and the movement of the culottes which could almost pass for a skirt. I was thinking today that if I unexpectedly got invited to a wedding this summer, this is what I could wear. (I know that would horrify most of you, but I'm not into dressy dresses at all ) This is my favourite kind of topper - a long ,slim cardigan - and this one is a sheer striped knit . I've rarely worn this one - it was bought for work last summer and hasn't see any action since. The sandals were a find last summer as well - a friend was wearing them and I loved them and had to have them . I admit to a bit of label snobbery here ( I cannot with Guess and their ratchet advertising campaigns plus I am decidedly NOT their target market ) , and the fact that they aren't leather isn't great, but for summer sandals which only last a few seasons anyways...... they were very inexpensive and are SUPER comfortable. Love a good platform.

I decided I have quite poor light in my bedroom for most of the day, so picture quality does suffer . But, what can you do?

It’s a really tough time for most people, and it’s absolutely devastating. The US is in crises to say the least. And it’s going to stay that way for a while. I’m reflecting a lot too. The only way out is through. There is no other way but to weather the storm, stay strong, and do what we can to make the best of what we have. Help and support others where we can. It sounds like you’re doing all that. So good job! Things will get better. Hang in there. We are hanging in there with you.

I am sorry your birthday was contemplative. It has been one of those weeks with a lot to process. I think the rest of this year will be tumultuous politically - I can’t see how it can be otherwise? Not easy when your livelihood is affected. A time for connecting with our loved ones and having fun outdoors I think.

Looks great! The color palette says minimal, but the accessories are fun and maximal. TGIF to this week for sure!

I think Covid is making many of us rethink our careers. What careers will still be viable, especially if it gets worse? What careers are safe to do? How can we keep work-life balance, after being at home for months and commute-free? I'm really hoping some permanent changes: more telecommuting and shorter workweeks (for the same pay) come out of it.

Hard times for a lot of us. My son is looking for a job after spending more than a decade in schools. What future awaits him in this economy? I try to stay optimistic for him as he worries a lot. This is not what we envisioned when he enrolled in PhD program years ago. But we are all must carry on. Somehow.

You look nothing short of fabulous. I love the culottes and your commentary is so funny. I feel the same way about Guess--we're definitely not the target market (at least anymore.) This is definitely a challenging time for many of us. Working like crazy or not working. It seems all or nothing! I just want to stick my head in the sand some days. Oh, thank you so much Angie. You know just the right things to say at the right time Yes, my hair is back to red. I couldn't get the right shade of blonde, and despite a couple of toning sessions back at the salon, it wasn't working . I think as I get older, the colour of my hair against my skin becomes ever more noticeable and thus important. My hair needs to be quite a warm shade now, full stop.

Love this outfit, Lisa! The culottes are gorgeous on you. I can just imagine the floaty texture. I really love the idea of floaty pinstripes -- there's great juxtaposition right there. And with the cardigan, the top, the fun textured bag and the sandals -- it's just plain terrific.

Sorry you had a rough day. The later 50s are no picnic at any time and how much worse to have a birthday in a week like this. PHEW. But contemplation is not such a bad thing. Really really glad for you that at least Winnipeg is doing well in this awful pandemic and may next week be brighter for you and for everyone.

You look fantastic. I love those culottes. IKWYM about certain labels, but I also give credit where it’s due, and when a brand like Guess makes a good item, I don’t judge for taking advantage of it!

What I am doing with any outfit beyond my shorts/tee uniform is to assess it against my 4 part style-avatar "guide". I want to do this as sort of an editing process - but with goal in mind other than "do I like this and do I still wear it". The individual pieces here pass the muster for my casual work look criteria (and the culottes could fudge their way into the dressy work capsule when worn with, say, a silk tank and a blazer). The knotted tank and cardigan can move down/across to the urban athlete collection and also into the boho summer casual group with different support pieces. The bag is just a fun thing I didn't pay for, but am loving using nonetheless. I am waffling about the sandals, to be honest. They are comfortable, in good condition, but I am not drawn to them as much this year as I was last summer. But economic realities mean that they are staying in my closet for now. Ideally, I'd have found a square toed mule or sandal to wear this summer, but I found nothing at any price point I could afford. Dodged that bullet

Happy birthday! The culottes look fantastic on you, and, as I have mentioned probably too many times, I love you with red hair. Do understand your feelings about work (mine has dried up) and the world at large. What a year. But I am hopeful that 2020 will represent a break from the selfish cycles of the last few decades and return to a more socially aware, community oriented society. At least among the young.
