I recently changed jobs and now I start my commute with a bike ride to the train station in the early morning (as opposed to driving to work). This suits me fine but the early morning cold is not conducive to wearing dresses. After a brief experiment with nude hose earlier this year, I decided that I don’t want to pay the high cpw - my two pairs both tore after three wear :(. So pants now reign supreme. No problem, I like pants and dresses equally.
Today I got a chance to wear a dress for an employee event in my own town. It was very hot all day, even within the building, so no issue there. My mom made this seventies style dress, I chose the fabric, pattern and buttons. I really like it and it feels substantial enough for work, yet fun too. Very basic black and white styling as I currently own NO colored accessories that work here :/. Despite the lack of choice I liked the result. I did add a red bag. (People were wearing anything from jeans + tee to blouses with pumps and lippie. Lots of printed pants and sun dresses. So I chose a happy medium.)
I like dresses because a good dress is an outfit. Sure, you can style it different ways but my favorite dresses are great when just paired with the right shoe, and perhaps a jacket. Dresses make me feel feminine and polished. I prefer shirt dresses, sack dresses and fit and flare (because they fit my figure and style best). If I ever find a well-fitting chinese dress though (cheongsam), I’ll die happy :).
