Double denim with a jeans skirt

A few months back I actually anticipated this ensemble and tried it myself. When Angie posted her ensemble the first thing I thought was drat, I had rolled the sleeves! So I tried to recreate the look and promptly ignored all the advice except that!
Of note is the denim skirt. As Angie and perhaps a few others (Claire are you out there?) know, I don't wear denim skirts for reasons of association. This prejudice was challenged when an Etoile Isabel Marant denim skirt, looking suspiciously like the one Angie featured here, literally fell into my hands at the thrift store.

New outfit: aforementioned skirt, thrifted Guess jacket, old thrifted Dries Van Noten shoes (in honor of his fabulous show), thrifted light blue Furla bag (in honor of Angie's new bag)
Old outfit: same jacket, Dries Van Noten skirt (second hand), Tibi shoes (second hand)

Which works? Neither? Would you wear two denim pieces together? All comments welcome!

What a brilliant idea to pair the double denim with that light blue bag. It's a gorgeous combination. Love it on you! And I think by wearing it this way you banish all those negative associations. Clearly an intentional outfit. I also love the other version. You can't go wrong!

Was it comfy wearing the jacket done up? I have found that it works fine for me with mine, but then again, it is so beastly cold here that all I really know is that it keeps the draft out!

I really love Old outfit, nothing to change. While New outfit is mostly very good I feel like there's something that could be improved?
It might be as simple as because you are wearing more fabric, all denim, presumably with some weight to it, you look very covered and yet you're wearing nude sandals so there's a disconnect?
Maybe for me, New outfit looks more autumn and like it needs more shoe?
Did you post a photo of the outfit with the sleeves rolled up?
I do not see any problem with you wearing multiple pieces of denim at the same time, you look so sophisticated and "from now" that you look neither juvenile nor dated.

Both work nicely, to my eye, but I prefer the second (er, first?) with the straighter skirt and sleeves pushed up. I like the dressier feel of it, and I think it's perhaps more conventionally flattering, with a slimmer silhouette. The first skirt is super fun, with the A-line and raw-edged hem, and I love those shoes with it. Your legs look fantastic in both outfits, if I may say so.

I like the old outfit best because the skirt fits you well and the jacket color matches with the skirt. The newer outfit's skirt looks a little bit or long, I can't quite tell, and it doesn't match as well. I'm feeling match-y today!

Maybe if you wore the A line skirt with a chambray shirt?

I love all denim. My preference would be the second outfit because it seems to match and I tend not to match things. I agree with CocoLion about trying the A line skirt with a chambray shirt and seeing how that works.

love old outfit….and i think the scrunched sleeves look great. i like new outfit, but not as much as the old. i love the skirt, and i'm looking forward to seeing how else you style it.

I like the old outfit best, but the new outfit skirt is lovely too.

Suz I did wear the old outfit and don't remember being uncomfortable. The jacket has some stretch to it. The new outfit was more of an experiment - denim skirts are not normally something I wear but I thought it would be fun to try it in a way I had never seen. Not sure what the future of that outfit will be.
Isabel, interesting point about the sandals. It was hot when I tried the whole thing on - I wonder if it would look less confused if I rolled up the sleeves. Also the sleeves are too long, as usual, on the jacket.
Sharan, you may say so and thank you. I have to admit the lighting was quite flattering in that picture, I will leave it at that :-).
Denise and Style Fan I will try that. If I keep the denim skirt, I will probably pair it with sleeveless tops. Hmm, a sleeveless chambray top would be interesting.

Shevia - I agree with others. New outfit is good, yet old is much better. Skirt, jacket, shoes - everything goes together really well and flatters you.

It's a great jacket. I tried the DD look myself a while ago with dark wash denim and I thought it worked quite well. So I love the column of dark blue grounded with the black shoes in the second (first?) look. Very sharp!

I'm in two minds about the other one. Somehow I like the rear view better than the front. The sandals and the jacket both match the skirt, but I think I agree with Isabel that the overall effect is slightly unbalanced. Your idea of a sleeveless chambray blouse is excellent. I'd also try that skirt with boots or sneakers and a printed tee or breton shirt.

I think you did a great job on both - but I have a slight preference for the rolled sleeve version.

I also prefer the second with the straighter skirt. Love seeing that pop of blue under the sleeves pushed up. And I agree with Firecracker "flattering, with a slimmer silhouette". I feel like there is a bit more bulk in the first outfit but I love the shoe with that fun skirt. Perhaps I want to see a t-shirt with this? That really is a great skirt. Well done on both!

You bit the bullet by wearing a denim skirt, which has strong connotations in Israel. I am impressed. You look Retro Futuristic. (New term that was coined after the Prada show last week - and I LOVED that show).

Shevia, I personally am unlikely to wear two denim pieces together unless their colors are either matched or obviously very different, but I do like the rolled sleeve version for some reason. I am also not certain that I like the light blue bag with the faded denim of the a-line skirt. IMO the light blue fades into the outfit and doesn't play much of a role, even though the bag is so beautiful.

I love the first skirt, the frayed hem kills the stodginess...truly and am once again jealous of your thrifting.
I think the both work in different ways.
