I've been going through F/W items slowly to determine what still works for my updated style. I have these griege, suede, over the knee slouchy boots that I don't have many occasions to wear, but I love. Here's where you come in. For those of you who have come to know my style on the forum, and I understand that you've not yet seen me in F/W outfits, barring my NAS picks, do you think these are too young, outdated or otherwise not appropriate? I really can't see clearly because I love them :-(, but now is the time to consign if they have to go. They do apparently make a nice cat bed though!

If you have the panache to wear them, they rock. Can you make up a list of three outfits you can wear with them today with what's in your closet? Are willing to spend money to create three outfits if you don't have the pieces? Do you have places to wear those outfits in your real life? If so, I'd keep. If you need to buy new skinnies and those aren't in your future direction, dump. That's how I'd decide.

Hi Dashielle --

I think there's always a place for a special item that make one happy when brought out!

While I can see these not working for every environment or occasion, I find the shape a classic one and they seem in step [so to speak!] with fall's emphasis on texture and greys.

However, if you want to be more strict than I like Rambling Ann's challenge. She ain't messing around, ha!

I think they are stunning, but if you have no occasions to wear them but find them comfortable why not have them shortened to below the knee? Maybe they will be more versatile that way? Age should not be an issue though!

I have a pair of shoes that are ridiculously high and have multiple black ankle straps and that I wear very infrequently -- maybe once a year? But I love them and they still make me happy when I wear them. If you really love those boots, I say keep them.

I read somewhere once that shoes/boots are one of the few items of apparel that don't necessarily have an "upper age limit" attached. A mature woman can rock a pair of super-high, sexy heels as long as the rest of the outfit is right (i.e. not hoochie). I tried to picture Helen Mirren wearing my shoes with a pair of rolled boyfriend jeans and a loose white button-front shirt, and was pleased with the mental image. It works. So maybe, try that! If you can picture Helen Mirren wearing your boots and not looking idiotic, I think you're good to go.

Thanks ladies for the feedback! No problem making outfits, as I have tons of skinny jeans, tights and riding jodhpurs to pair with all my fave tunic sweaters for F/W, including the jacket I'm wearing here. I have also worn them with knee length or longer dresses/skirts, which works bare legged or with hose/tights. They are definitely "desk" shoes though!

They look fabtastic!! And I think they suit your style. My only question is the heel height. Being comfortable and being able to walk fluidly contributes vastly to one looking stylish, if they tick the boxes, and clearly you love them, then it's a big KEEP from me.

I would hold on to them, and enjoy them. They look so good on you! Definitely not young, etc. They look sophisticated, the suede is gorgeous, and the color is very current. I noticed a lot of over the knee boots at NAS, though they were flat. Still, it seems OTK boots are going to be well represented this fall.

In favor (in general--of course it's all up to the individual!) is the wonderful gray suede leather, which I think goes a huge way toward making them look more relaxed and not Nancy Sinatra.
They do sort of require pretty specific outfit partners--above oufit looks great--so if you want to wear that and more of that, they would certainly make a great look.
So then it depends on if you have room to store them, if they're not worn that often.

In going through some wardrobe review and editing, I've come across several fabness vs. versatility issues. Sometimes it annoys me too much , if something is great but I can seldom wear it. But contrasted with that is, who cares aout wearing something often if it doesn't look great? So there's a balance. I recently culled some versatile but meh items and kept instead an item that may only go with a couple of others, but makes a really great combination. I felt I had space to keep it for now. Ideally I want to replace said latter item with one that serves as well and is more versatile.

Thank you all for validated my gut instinct on the boots. I can't wait until F/W this year. It's going to be my best, wardrobe-wise! I like the Helen Mirren test Aziraphale, I will use that in future!
