Does this look ridiculous?

OK, I know I am old, and I am not trying to look younger. But my son is, literally, a rock star. And I do go to concerts where I stand for the whole evening and virtually everyone around me (DH is the exception) is a generation younger. Is this outfit for such occasions offensive? Please be frank. And please offer suggestions for alternatives?

Heck, no, you don't look ridiculous or anything of the like! I am about to turn 50 and I go to a lot of rock shows (and my stepsons have a band too), so I know what you mean, but you look perfectly occasion-appropriate to me! Not only appropriate but rock'n'roll chic in a way that defies age.

Nope, you look great, very distinctive and sophisticated. I'm thinking maybe it's because with your hair style etc. you look like you really ARE this person, and not just putting on a disguise for the evening.

Ah - that's just another one of those expressions I ignore So many judgements about age are aimed mainly at older women.

I found this interesting, I don't think they defying their age, just social expectations. If we don't defy them we can't change them.

Well, I don't go to rock concerts, but I think you look fantastic in this outfit. It certainly doesn't come across as "trying too hard to be young" .

I second Isabel's comment: if this look isn't natural for you, then you're a great actress. You look SO confident and I agree that the hairstyle finishes your look. Get out there and rock it!

Thank you, everybody. I really wasn't fishing for the compliments. I've been a big music fan all my life (the first concert I saw was the Beatles -- I was a young girl, and I think we all wore dresses while standing on the chairs). As I've gotten older and older, the rest of the audience hasn't, and I've worried for a long time that I was just embarrassing myself and whomever I was with by the simple act of being there while being old. For much of this time, I dressed in very corporate black suits for my day job and then swapped the skirts out for black jeans or leggings before heading to the show. I do remember getting the evil eye from the CEO one day when I was full-on goth before a NIN concert in the 90s.
(Btw, my son is 35 now, so if you're that age or a bit younger, you'd know him as the frontman of a pioneering screamo band of the early oughts. That look was entirely t-shirts, skinnies and converse. He's still in the biz, but now has a record label.)
