Does anyone else adore long jackets?

I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea but I have really adored long jackets since I first found them in the 90"s and am not happy that they are so hard to find in this length I do like the jackets with skinny or slim pants, for a long over lean look, a la Lauren Hutton, but I would have styled them with booties since I don't have her height. I also really love these jackets buttoned either with a short skirt (yes, looking at you Ally McBeal) or leggings/ponte jeggings for the equestrian vibe. I was just interested if anyone else loves this look? (PS you won't hurt my feeling if the answer is no!!)

I do like long-ish sort of boyfriend jackets, but the one on Lauren Hutton is longer than I like.

Parsley - I really get this. I think this silhoutte would look best with a certain body type and a monochromatic look with either a very short narrow skirt or very narrow pants/jeggings. I would not expect it to be a look that everyone loved but still curious to see if there any other takers!!

And like Elaine on Seinfeld! Beyond the 90s looks, I noticed long jackets on Downton Abbey. I do like them.

Adding ... I think on Downton Abbey, the jackets have high-low or curved hems. I remember the long jacket I had in the 90s also had a curved hem. Maybe that helps.

Very understandable, Mo. Christie - yes like a man's frock coat or morning coat. No surprise I do love that look too. It's like the Gibson Riding jacket but longer. Anna Sui did a whole collection of frock coats in the 90's that had me swooning. The steampunk more opulent version of this look. No surprise I do own a washed black denim frock coat from Ralph Lauren (my version of the denim jacket) that I really enjoy. To downplay the costumey nature I keep the rest of the outfit very streamlined low key and modern, yes and black.

I like longer jackets, but perhaps not quite this long. I nearly always wear pants and don't care for the look of a sweater or shirt hanging out below the hem of a jacket. I know it's a modern, in look, but to me it looks somewhat sloppy. Since I rarely tuck tops in, jackets cropped at the waist don't work well for me. My ideal length is somewhere around 25-28 inches, bur I'm a short person.

Hi Catnip - that's an astute observation. I too preferred my tops to be shorter or the same length as than my jacket. I like the 33" length personally because, not only does it cover or meet most tunics, but since that is finger tip length on me, if I button the jacket, I can wear it almost as a tunic or coat dress over leggings.

I'm of a split mind on them. I like them in theory (and on Lauren Hutton) but not sure IRL. In fact, last year I bought a beautiful long Milly jacket -- deep forest green, curved hem, ruffled collar, that was very Downton Abbey. I got it VERY cheap. But I just couldn't bring myself to wear it, so I consigned it. I'm kind of wishing I hadn't -- I would have loved to at least taken it for a test drive here.

Viva - I know just how you feel. I had that RL denim frock coat for a long time before I was ready to wear it. It's a very stylized look. You have to be feeling the look!! IK, so glad you are on board!! I did buy the Theory Marcela blazer. Simple, minimalist, clean, fitted. That is how I like it best too!! Now if only I could find matching slim pants and skirt!!

I like anything in theory. But this is so unflattering to my personal proportions that I can't get past it. I do love long-ish jackets on those who have the height and I adore a cutaway coat.

Long jackets, yes! Not the pictured example in particular, at least, not on me. I used to have long (just above knee) fitted dark suit jackets that I mixed up for casual wear. Miss those, and now I'm thinking about which aspects of them worked (and might still work) for my proportions. And how to wear them with knee-high boots.

Yes -- I have a 20-year-old Donna Karan that is too big and cannot bear to part with it. Love this look. Wish it was easier to find.

Amy, absolutely, duster length!! Got that covered too!! There was a VC collarless duster at Nordstrom in the spring that I pounced on. Love this look!! Kyle - wow, major drool going on here. Could this piece be taken in? Could you make it work for the oversized look? Definitely would cry to let that go. Very hard to find now. I constantly put "long jackets" in on store and search engine website, but definitely fringe.

Deb - absolutely dusters!! I search that way too although most of the time dusters gets the knee length vs fingertip length. But any way to find them is a good way!

While you can almost always catch me in a moto jacket, I do have one long jacket that I've had for years that I still wear and fall in love with every so often. Its bold black and white houndstooth print, with 3/4 sleeves and a collar, with big black buttons. The overall style is WAY more feminine than I'd normally wear, but the brashness of the graphic print gives it more edge than if it was in a solid, classic color.

It feels fancy and somewhat 'special occassion', and while the glorious looks of the 90s aren't totally lost on me, I compare its style to that of Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl.

Give me my multiple motos for my daily style, but a long jacket is not lost on me!

I tend to not notice them because they're so difficult for my body type (to fit my shoulders they'd be straining across my butt). Looks great on Lauren and I love the Ally MacBeal look!

Fruitful - I think we all focus on things that flatter our body types. I always admire clothes that curvy women can wear - gosh those defined waists, so dramatic - but not a good fit for my straight frame.
