What do you think of the original sperry boat shoes? Yay, they're a classic casual shoe, or nay, too preppy/masculine?

Rock and Candy has some cute boat shoes in a few fun colors. I just picked up the red canvas and they are fun to kick around in.

I like them and think they are super cute but may not work for everyone's style. I'm not sure about yours, or your coloring. I know for me they would never work. The ones Christy linked are a lot softer in appearance.

I'm personally not a fan, but as RandomThoughts mentioned, this is a personal style thing. Probably too casual for me, as I'd tend towards a brogue or oxford I think! xD I think it also depends on the context and what you'd wear them for though.

They remind me too much of suburban dads. Not that there is anything wrong with that--I myself have a suburban dad! I just don't want to look like him

I agree with Jyoti...if I'm going for masculine, I prefer a more dressy masculine.

I much prefer the shoes you are already wearing with this outfit to the proposed boat shoes. I can't see them with skirts at all, really. Maybe walk shorts or bermudas. Nay from me.

I think for most of us these are exclusively men's shoes. My father wore them constantly in the summer, and now my 19-year-old son does! A color would work better, although I think I'd go for a more feminine style ( like the shoe in yankeebelle's link).

Sammi, I ADORE these shoes (always have). I own a pair in a nude for me (read: really light). They are supportive like a sneaker, yet very attractive (if I am a suburban dad, then call me Roger because I love 'em).

I am due up for a new pair. I rocked a cognac color when I was younger, but I now prefer the lighter ones. You can TOTALLY pull these off. I may or may not be digging on a pair of gold ones I saw at the Nordies, too. ;D

Giant yay from me, but I still consider them gear:) On the water, you'll see as many women as men sporting these.

I wear navy blue 2-eye AOs. Plain, no patent, no silver edging, no froofraws. Just basic blue Sperrys that relax and conform to your feet over time. Here I am in 2003 wearing mine with a tiara and denim shorts (heading in to change for my wedding).

This is such a matter of personal taste! I have a strong aversion to them--too preppy for me and I still remember preppy kids wearing them with monogrammed sweaters and Izod shirts (with the collar flipped up) back in the 80s. Shudder. But...if you like them, then go for it! I've seen plenty of college-age young women wearing these sorts of shoes with skirts and dresses.

Not my style personally (waaaay too preppy for me) but I have seen some ladies rock them with short shorts or mini skirts. I think the key with this kind of shoes is to have a lot of leg showing to avoid the suburban dad look and also to compensate for the wide-ish shoe silhouette plus lack of heel. Maybe with a red striped shirt for a super nautical look?

I prefer the colored versions shown and can see them worn with lots of casual outfits (similar to "Tom's" or other flat espadrille styles). The originals are great once they are worn in and remind me of summers on Martha's Vineyard. You need denim cutoffs and an oxford button down (and of course tan sailor legs) or faded bermudas and a boatneck sweater. Maybe that's too preppy themey? Sorry for the trip down memory lane. Ahh I can smell the saltwater now...

Beth, you look fabulous in yours!! Especially LOVE them with the tiara I do a fair amount of sailing in the summer so I was hoping they would double as gear...though it sounds like yours are gear only?

I was trying to decide whether to cancel an order I'd placed...but I was too slow and it shipped. So I'll look at them in person when they arrive...though I'm now wishing I would have tried the lighter ones!

Sammi, I do wear mine mostly as gear, but I also still wear them with casual outfits. They tend to sneak onto my feet when I'm not looking. :O I like the darker ones, but the ones you posted in Ice would look great, too. Post a few pictures when they arrive!
