Do you like either of these dresses?

I suggested one of these EF dresses (#1, I think) for April’s barn wedding event. It must have been because I liked it. I ordered two because the first one was out of stock, and then came back into stock. What do you think of them? They are darker than pictured online, and that’s a disappointment. But it’s still a pretty color. These definitely emit the museum docent vibe.

ETA: I was supposed to get my hair cut this Saturday, but there was a mix up, and then pulling dresses over my head, I just realized I look a little like a mad professor.

I like the colour on you! I prefer the 1st, I have the exact same shape kaftan and plan to wear the heck out of it just as is, but very importantly: first some rounds with the steamer!

Love the color - not sure about the size for the first one ( maybe smaller size or just add couple gold necklaces for more eye focus ).

I prefer #1. Love the length on you. I think a necklace would would be good if you want to dress it up.

I like the second one. The buttons and sleeve style are eye catching. The color is flattering on you. Are they linen?

I like both, but lean more strongly to #1 -- I think the length will just make it easier to wear. Colour is beautiful and it suits you SO well!

I much prefer #2. It looks comfy and fun.

#1 is giving me hospital gown vibes (sorry). Agree with the suggestion to try a size down, and more styling (chunky jewelry etc) could help me see the appeal.

Here’s a picture comparing them. They are the same size, and both are linen. I haven’t ironed either. That was probably obvious...

#1 literally looks like a bag. But I like the length, and the neckline, for necklaces. The second one seems a little too short. The neckline and sleeves are cute, but that neckline would make wearing a statement type necklace harder. I think a smaller size of #1 might make it too snug in the hips and maybe even walking.
My husband thinks #1 looks like a hospital gown, too!

I like the second one best, even with the shorter length. The added details at the neckline look like it could on-and-done. If you want to add a statement necklace, the first dress would be best. The deeper shade of tne color may even work for you into the fall with fall colors like brown ( any shade, rust, or olive. My favorite topper with dresses right now is a long cardigan or duster. A belt or fitted jacket may help reign in the dress.

I think the colour is gorgeous on you! Maybe the first dress is more versatile as it can be dressed up or down.

I like #2 because it has a little more definition through the shoulders and upper bodice, and I think the length is flattering and look balanced on your proportions. If you prefer #1 you could consider shortening it? Maybe not as short as #2, but just a bit to make it look a little less overwhelming? Or, you could wear heels?

Hmm, ok, my thought after seeing both dresses together and reading your comments is perhaps a simple alteration to dress #1 to give a bit more waist definition (while preserving the room in the hips) might be worth investigating. Of course dress #2 also has more structured shoulders as Jenava points out. And then the question is -- do you want a project?

I like #2 best. I can't resist that henley/popover style neckline, and the fit overall is a little more structured. Mind you, I'm also not as committed to knee coverage as many YLFers are. If the added length is a priority for you, I see no problem keeping #1, especially if you want a dress you can use as a backdrop for statement necklaces. I definitely didn't pick up a hospital vibe at first glance; I love that colour and I think shoes/bag/jewelry will mitigate any potential associations with hospital gowns/scrubs/etc.

My husband has clarified his opinion: they both look like hospital gowns. I’m going to have to mull things over. I want a throw on and go, but also something I could dress up with jewelry or a scarf. I’ll think about altering it. I think the sleeve contruction is different and there are extra seams in #2 giving it more definition. That might make altering #1 harder. #1 is available directly from Eileen Fisher in a smaller size.

Honestly, I don’t think you’d go wrong with either one, but, I’m partial to #1, i just like longer.

Prefer #1 for all the same reasons you do, but would suggest sizing down for comparison. The hospital gown comments are probably due to the colour. If it was white or chambray blue, you probably wouldn’t get the comparison. I like the green.

I liked one better and did not get hospital vibes.

I have a similar-ish dress and it was so well worn in summer as a good base. Lots of hats, glasses and different shoes seemed to work to make it look good.

Love the color! I think 1 would be a great throw on and go with a little more shaping or shortening. I think 2 is great but want a little more length. Great hot weather dresses!

#1 definitely doesn't read hospital gown to me. And I assume your backside is completely covered? To me it reads cool, easy, comfortable, sophisticated. All it needs are chunky sandals and, when you feel so inclin
ed, a great necklace. Maybe something with wooden beads.

The museum docent vibe is an excellent vibe in my book. I like the first, but it might be better sized down and needs the I would never wear these accessories with a hospital gown touch .

I like this color on you, but perhaps that is what is giving him that idea.

My first impulse was toward the second dress, but I also see that #1 could be a great backdrop for jewelry, and as Sal says, would be cool with hats and different kinds of footwear. It is more sophisticated looking to me (museum docent is a good descriptor!).

Thanks everyone for your opinions and jokes. I’ve ordered #1 in the smaller size. As much as I like #2, it just feels too short to me.

ETA: I have several necklaces that would work with #1. I only have basic looking earrings, and I think #2 needs statement earrings. Something with turquoise and sterling. I might have seen promising candidates on Etsy.
