I was JUST talking about this with my hubby last night!
I have been ordering up a storm over here, now that I have a new job and am confident I can spend money. It frustrates me that more and more that petite clothes are offered online only -- or as Ann Taylor calls it "online exclusive." (Nice marketing spin, ha). My local AT has less and less petites to try on in the store. And my local BR used to be the first to get petite clothes in, and had an awesome, store-size selection. No longer. Now I have to drive 25 minutes away, and the petite selection at that store isn't all that great. At least I'm fairly confident about my size in those brands, and have higher chance that if I order something online it may fit. Unfortunately I gained some weight recently so I'm in that awkward between size zone, and am finding I need to order both the 2p and the 4p to compare -- guaranteeing one is going to go back. Grrrrr.
Macy's also used to be one of my go-to stores for petites, but they closed the one near our house awhile back. I can order online but I find Macy's to be hit or miss. That said, recently I've had awesome luck with Ralph Lauren jersey dresses.
Nordstrom's is a hike for me and when I get there, the petites are picked over. I do cruise through the regular's too, but often they have just ONE in my size, which sells fast. When I go online I'll see a far better selection. Last few times I went to Nordie's, the sales person wound up taking me over to the computer and trying to get me to order something online. Sheesh. I could've saved myself a drive and just done that myself from home!
And I haven't even mentioned my shoe frustration!!!
More and more shoe stores have closed in my area. Yes, there's DSW but I am finding their selection is increasingly poor -- inexpensive, ill-footing shoes. I hate wasting hours in a giant store like that and coming out empty handed. I hate hopping all over the store in my stockings, rooting through boxes. I prefer the old-fashioned way to buy shoes, where I sit comfortably and a sales clerk brings me boxes to try on!
If I know a brand works, sure, I can go online and order via Zappos. That's fine, but brands change all the time. Yes Zappos ships fast and all that but 90% of what I order goes back. And I worry that is destructive to the environment. And it's still a pain to have to return the boxes.
I want to be able to go to a store and try on a ton of stuff, compare between sizes, consider, and then make my purchase, and have the item that day. This waiting around for the mail just sucks. Especially when it doesn't fit. And then I have to return it.
Really, there has to be a better way!
End of rant.
