Do you have a "Wardrobe Weakness" and do you surrender?

My own is outerwear. I sort of surrender to it and sort of resist it.

Actually, both Mr. April and I have way too many coats and jackets. In our defense, we have combined three separate households (each one semi-stocked with raingear and winterwear) into one over the past few years, we live in a four-season climate, and we now spend lots of time outdoors with our dog. Still.

How about you? Do you have a WW and if so, how do you manage it?

Not to be confused with weak areas of my wardrobe- haha- Many more of those!
Mine are skirts and, to a lesser extent, dresses. I justify them cause they're easy to fit and style, they have the highest PUPY value, and just look and feel right on me. Above the knee to maxi, tube to flowy, I want All The Skirts!

How I'm managing it this year is forcing myself to address the problematic categories instead :/ TBH- I don't think it's going so well...

If I had a coat closet I might have more outerwear!

Not to enable, but it is nice to have a lot of options for outerwear! Sounds like a good way to combat winter doldrums.
For me, it’s button-down shirts. I hardly ever meet one I don’t like! I really have to stop myself from duplication, especially for more casual ones. They are staples for me, but I have plenty. I’m managing the addiction by trying to be pickier. At this point, I’m only adding if it’s really something special or in silk. And practicing one in, one out.
OTOH, I have very few bags (not really enough for my needs) because I am too picky about those.

April, I can identify with you. Outerwear takes up the largest part of my clothing categories. A-hem….I politely disagree with you that it is a wardrobe weakness. I’m going to call it a strength and continue to enhance my outerwear collection. Enjoying the 4 seasons means being prepared for all temps and weather. Being outside in nature is my favorite place to be….and I’ll do it in style!

This is such a great question. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one. For me, it’s shirts and tops, especially white or floral print. If I’m not careful I’ll have one or two bottoms and 50 tops, haha. I don’t like the idea of two items serving the same purpose (for example, two white tops with ruffles and puffy sleeves that are both the same fabric). Because I know I’ll only pick one to wear and the other will just hang in my closet. So I try to pick out different details, shapes, fabrications, prints, etc. to make each shirt unique to my wardrobe.

Gotta be SHOES! I love all shoes and have way too many. If I go shopping, more often than not I will bring home a new pair and the shoe section is always the first place I check. I have been trying to be more picky lately and go for quality over quantity. But I love to have just the right shoes to complete an outfit so I will probably always have a lot

I’m with you, April…coats and jackets! I also live in a 4-season climate and for 9 months out of the year need some weight of topper for different activities/events (pre-COVID).

I also can’t resist shoes and boots, expecially if they work for my picky feet. My thinking is along the lines of “Oh, this feels great, looks great, and is on sale… I may need this for a wedding in 2 years.”

Short sleeved tops, mostly tee shirts. Which is dumb dumb dumb because they make up about 60% of my casual tops, and I wear them only about 20% of the year. October-March are almost always too chilly and require long sleeves; in June-August, I can’t stand anything more than sleeveless. I haven’t been very successful in pairing them with toppers to extend wear, so I might work harder on that.

I do surrender because 1. They’re affordable and comfortable 2. They’re always available in lovely colors and nice fabrications 3. They feel like me.

Knitwear for me if I have to admit
Probably, because it’s easier to fit than woven garments. If I add my summer, fall, spring and especially winter sweaters, it would be the biggest part of my wardrobe. This is the only category where I duplicate the same item in different colors.
I used to have a very small collection of outwear, shoes and bags. It took me a while to understand (I’m slow ) importance of variety of good outwear and accessories. I got better with outwear and shoes but still struggle with bags.

I’m aware that I tend to overbuy sweaters and have too many. I have promised myself to be very careful but fail so often

Jackets. They're usually a relatively easy fit on me (at least compared to the difficulties of dresses and pants!), I love how they look and how they complete a look, and that they are usually more allowing of size changes than other items are.

Shoes would be next. And jewelry and scarves.

My WW is footwear and jackets. I wear all the footwear but not all the jackets. I also live in a four season area and can see various situations where various seasonal items are needed. I have strict rules for footwear…flat and enclosed, so no heels or sandals, must be very comfortable and stable, Prefer easy off, easy on styles, metallics, whites, light in weight.
Coats and jackets, like waterproof but no crinkle sound when moving. Big enough coats to layer under and not too short.

Shirts! Simple button-front shirts are an easy fit for me, I love the look, and I can wear them with almost anything. Compared to the rest of my wardrobe I have a huge array: short sleeve and long-sleeve, solid and patterned, tailored and oversized, summer-weight and winter-weight... Because they're woven and natural fiber, they also seem to last forever so my collection keeps growing.

Blazers & booties. I have a terrible time, for work, finding the type of underlayers that work with my silhouette. So I can pretty much duplicate and wear almost the same "uniform" swapping out my blazers and booties to swap up the outfits. So it's a tactical decision. That I love blazers and booties does not hurt. But right now I'm on a VB jag. So flattering. RIght now I want a long black jacket with silver embossed buttons - matteo come back to mama!! On booties I wear them all as I do jackets so it's not a waste at all. But I'm always scrounging for underlayers that work. But I'm never mainstream style wise and that's a problem....

Footwear has always been my weakness, but as Always Trying mentioned, the pandemic has tempered that considerably. Moto jackets and earrings are WW in which still I indulge.

Shoes and outerwear are either so hard to fit or have some detail that I can't get around, like a too gaudy zipper or a detail color I don't want etc, so it has to be sweaters.

Every year I can find excellent yarn content and beautiful colors in great styles.

Last year I lost a horrifying sum to moths. This year I baked my sweaters at a low temperature and packed them in plastic bags and I was kind of surprised at how many I have but not exactly sorry.

Outerwear and shoes. In a four season climate, a lot of the time when I'm out those are essentially the only things others see - coats and boots. So those actually ARE an outfit of sorts.

Second to those, I love dresses - one piece dressing!

Tops, I have way too many blouses, tees, sweaters, shirts, tunics, and dresses. I've been trying to focus on other categories this year and it's been hard.

To April’s original question, my weakness is the ever popular clothing- too-dressy-for-my-current-lifestyle. I’d hoped to make some progress on suitably casual “going-out” outfits this season - hence my lemming-purchase of lisap’s POMP dress, but so far not much has worked out. Our household is back to self-imposed lockdown until vax rate improves here, so will probably abandon that effort for this season.

Graphic tees and tank tops ( mostly tees ). I do wear all of them year around - warm Bay Area. I like the natural fabric, the fit and fun print of graphic tops and have hard time giving up any of them .
Lots of outwear is great to have in 4 season climate.

same as Bonnie - tops are my weakness and have been trying to add different pieces to stretch what I currently have. Boy, it's hard work to stay focussed on the search for missing pieces!

Dresses. I do not say no to good ones. Though I have been raising my standards for what is good, and occasionally I've turned down one that I would have been an immediate buy some time ago, if I already have something that is practically identical.

Behind that is fabric. I am trying to make inroads into my stash, but then I keep buying more for different projects. I'm a bit uneasy about this one. I really want to make things but it does take time.

I would say my wardrobe strength (thanks, Mainelady!) is booties, followed by sneakers.

Print tops in luxe fabrics (silk, silk-cotton, silk-viscose, silk-wool, you get the idea :), and clogs. Yes, I am in surrender mode with the former especially, but will eventually have to stop!
