It occurred to me, when I was asking about statement pieces, that there is one single piece in my wardrobe that I think of as my lynchpin. The piece, to be totally melodramatic, without which my sartorial world would be cast down into perpetual darkness - all light, all hope, all style eternally extinguished (don't you love hyperbole, but it feels true!! For me that piece is a DKNY hip belt, contoured, with a slide on the back for perpetual size adjustment and a silver buckle. The brilliance of this piece is that, being a rectangle, it allows the belt to sit flush with the buckle creating a v-shape which elongates my torso and gives me the illusion of a waist. Since I usually wear black the belt blends into the backround focusing the eye on the buckle. Somehow, it not only finishes and adds polish to every outfit but I feel so much cooler when I wear it. Does anyone else have one element that seems to hold everything else in their wardrobe together, or is it just me?
