Do you find Converse Sneakers cute?

Hello girls!

So I have these lovely Converse shoes (not the real thing, but something similar and much cheaper) and I will wear them from time to time. They are black denim, so they look sort of grey, and with the white rubber everywhere else (feet and sole). The thing is, everytime my dad sees me in them, he has to say something like 'how can you wear those? the lower-class people in my town used to wear those... they are ugly, and cheap, and bad quality and smelly, nothing looks tackier than that and I don't understand how come everyone is wearing them'. I normally ignore my dad's opinion on fashion because, let's face it, he has no idea about it and especially when it comes to me, he will ALWAYS comment (I've heard him say of a right-above-the-knee skirt being too long and a bit shorter skirt being too short, that is, I'm either conservative or something probably worse lol not that he offends me or anything, I'm just joking). So just out of curiosity, do you think cons are really that cute or that we are just so used to the trend that we don't question the look anymore?

I have never been a fan of this look, even on my adorable, hip daughter when she was in high school.

So while I think they CAN look cute -- I don't think that cons are "really that cute" in general, to answer your question.

I have a pair of black ones and think they are really good for a casual look. I also have a pair I got at a trade aid shop which are converse but they are ethically produced shoes which look almost identical to them. they are red and basketball length. I think they are funky.

I like them on other people when they are wearing the right outfits. Chewy (Khris) is a great example. But on me? Not so much.

I had three pairs of the real Converse shoes (black, blue and red) for some time. I wore them a lot from age 12 til maybe 17 or 18. I had to throw them out in the end because they were in pieces. Because I wore them so much I don't really like to see them on myself anymore, I'm just fed up with the look. It reminds me too much of my teenage years (and they were not so long ago). The only time I can imagine wearing them again is maybe with jeans and t-shirt to a rock concert or an event similar to it. But I can't say I miss them very much. Not really answering your question, sorry. Although I would never use the term "cute" for Converse shoes.

I think because they are so popular with the younger kids (think school age), it's hard to pull off a grownup look with it, not that you cannot, just harder. Not the same reasons as your dad's though.

On my boys when they are dirty and ridden with holes? no!
I'ts funny, I actually prefer them on adult women.. probably because the whole outfit is more put together and polished than a typical teens.

I used to have over 20 pairs of converse (all different colors! Red satin brocade!), but ultimately I decided that was too many pairs of shoes. Now I have about 5 pairs, including some special Christmas ones that were made in the USA (i.e., old) and are green and red plaid with a wreath around the converse logo and a jingle bell suspended above the heel.

I love them. But they are sort of cold for my climate (seattle) so I don't wear them as much as I used to when I cared less about comfort. I did buy a pair of "delux converse" once, made of leather and styled more like an old fashioned wrestling shoe. Those I've worn nearly every day (excluding summer) for the past two years. Love.

I bought a pair of Cons on sale, after I had seen them on YLF. They are raspberry pink! I never had a pair as a teen, so this was a new look for me. But I LOVE them! I don't think I would consider them cute in a feminine way, but cute in a fun and funky way.

I love them and have since I was a teen. I had a pair of black Converse high-tops then that I wore with everything...including with shorts and no socks (eeeugh). But I was more into the "grunge" look then (it was the early 90s) and the Cons went perfectly with that.

Now I have a charcoal gray low-topped pair. I don't wear them as much because they don't fit my fashion persona as well as they did back then - but for casual days running around with my kids in jeans, they're so much cuter than an athletic shoe. One of my favorite outfits is bootcuts, a deep red graphic T, and a boyfriend blazer and my gray Cons.

I am so known for wearing these sneakers, it's rather funny. My friends call me "skater boy" when I wear them I've maintained a pair of black converse ( Chuck Taylor) on rotation since Will Smith brought them back on that movie "I Robot".I recently replaced them for gray.

I also have a small and colorful Puma collection LOL

Absolutely they are cute! I am 47 and wear mine quite often on casual days. I will never give them up. I know Angie is a fan, too, so I feel justified, but I'd probably wear them anyway.

That said, they have to fit in with your style, so they're probably not for everyone. But they work for me.

I wore these all through college, and I think the high-tops are more my style. For all my gear leanings, I am surprisingly not a sneaker person unless I am running. Cuteness Exhibits, indeed!

I like Cons, and they fit in my style, but I'm pretty averse to sneakers in general so I don't own a pair (though I am considering it). Not sure I'd use the word "cute" to describe them.

EDIT: Is your dad thinking of some of the punk looks from the 70s/80s? The black high tops were semi-popular with lots of punks when I was a teen in the 90s. Not as much as combat boots, but for those traditionalists with skater-y looks who didn't want to wear Vans or boots, most stuck with Converse.

I had both high tops and low tops in the late 1980s and early '90s, but now I would feel silly in them--mutton as lamb! I know Angie recommends them, but I honestly think this is one place where she is wrong. They are fine for teenagers, but there are so many cuter and more polished casual shoes available that are equally comfortable and more versatile. I prefer many of the casual styles from Born, Clarks, Simple, and Keen.

I am actually not a fan of them for adults over 20 something. Not to say i don't find them cute..on children and very young adults...

I only like them on kids, teens, college students, and possibly adults who wear them with spunk and edge (i.e. the exception and not the rule). On your average suburban mother of 2.5 kids, I have to admit I find it a little odd looking. There are many other fashion sneakers that hit a better note for me.

My boyfriend actually bought some pink ones for me so I would have cuter athletic shoes. ^_^
Their main attraction is that they come in so many colors so you can match them with any casual outfit. I can trek around in them all day without my feet hurting, and that's a big plus!

To me, they are a young look and definitely associate them with people of the age to be going to school. They're not terrible but there are so many other cute casual shoes out there I'd reach for first. They have a certain connotation in my mind, and I agree that an older than college aged lady could pull them off in a more hip or ironic way, but worn as a MOTG kind of thing I don't see it. 'Course that's my personal opinion only.

I gotta tell you, I didn't like them at first, but they totally grew on me and now I have a pair of my own.

I like them for a casual look. I don't pair mine (hopefully) with anything that screams teenager. I also think they need to look nice and not ragged.

I honestly don't care for them at all. On Angie and others they look sweet, but when I try to wear them I feel ultra un-fab. I don't prefer them.
