I got some Bebe eye glasses today. I'd have showed you all, but I wear contacts most of the time, I was late to my appointment, and I was the doctor's last patient of the day.

The Bebe aren't me (they involve bling), but they were the best fit of the lot. I also pretty much only wear glasses at home. And, frankly, I wanted my insurance to pay. That's what I have it for. In a past year, I went and got something special - and actually those frames are still the best and I'm hanging onto them - but this time I wanted new ones and yet could not be bothered. My best friend would have chosen the optometrist by the frames selection. Haha. I just pick one and go. Haha.

I'm sort of wondering if it was a stupid thing to do, although i plan to just live with it no matter what. For better or worse, i don't care about frames. Should I wear them out, they might help Country Punk go to the office. A really New Wavy guy picked them from two options, and I feel like at least a guy with taste in my ballpark went for them.

On the other hand, they could be a very bad influence on me and lead me down roads I did not intend to go.

Anyways, I was wondering if there were times when y'all take a pass on your own style? If there are matters of dress where you really don't care if you exert your style?

I just expand my style to incorporate whatever comes along. Please show your blingy glasses when you feel like it - I bet they suit you to a t!

Possibly in the night-wear area. I prefer plain to pattern generally, but if I am bra-less I prefer a bit of distraction in the form of graphic to disguise the fact that my boobs are way further South than I would like

Rachylou, perhaps you should think of the glasses as loungewear, to be worn only at home in private. Perhaps your loungewear capsule style is different than your street wear style?

Well, I definitely do already think of frames as At Home wear... More than that, it's Retired for the Night wear. You bring up something, tho, Marmee that did not dawn on me. They will do terrible things paired with my new leopard print nightie! Like carpet the garage in white wall-to-wall...

I was just thinking today about if I wanted to change up my at-home style. I don't have lounge wear, I have walking the dog wear. And though I'm in it for quite a few hours a week, it tends to be extremely basic: jeans + Target tee + cheap sweatshirt. Hmmmm.

Maybe the glasses spoke to you somehow....

If insurance is paying, that is a really big motivator! I would have probably done the same, unless the frames were horrendously awful.

You said the frames are not you, but did you like them at all? Were you attracted to them even though they weren't your style? Or did you just pick the lesser of two evils? If you liked them on some level, maybe it is a sign that you have a bit of a different style surfacing. :^)

Boy, Golden, I never thought about my bed clothes style before today. It's always been a matter of dress code and practicality.

Adelfa - You know, maybe they did. Maybe I've been being too grungy for my own self...

I think my style is always evolving. I am style fluid to be truthful it tends to make me very happy. When I purchase glasses I tend to buy 2pr at a time so that I can switch up. If you find it challenging you could save them for certain ocassion. I would love to see you in them.

I'd love to see them too! For myself I don't care much about personal style when it comes to winter outerwear and shoes. Fit and comfort are most important when it's cold and snowy. My pajamas are an unstylish mess too, I really need some new ones. And I'm not very picky when it comes to loungewear or sportswear.

Gigi - I'm getting a little less spend-thrifty in my old age. Lol. Why do I pay for vision care if I'm not going to use it, right? I thought the general shape was fine, even the best of the lot. It just happened to come with bling on the sides.

ladywone & lyn67 - I will take a pic and post when they come back, absolutely. I don't have them now; they're the getting the lenses put in. Re. evolution: No doubt I've switched styles several times, back and forth, but glitz had definitely been dropped from the picture. The whole Rodeo Drive thing is so... '90s to me. Lol.

Astrid - I agree, staying warm takes all precedence!

I think my 'at home' style might be not as indicative of my overall style as the pieces I choose for seeing the world. Comfort is key, style secondary. Same with running gear. Cool that the shoes have hot pink laces, but if they didn't fit my feet right first and foremost, those laces would matter not. Your glasses sound kind of like both gear and at home capsules.

That's true, Mo. I don't see glasses as being an outfit component of mine, so I was like fine. They're gear. If they come with bling, they come with bling. Of course, now that I'm waiting for them to come back, I'm obsessing about the bling!

I wouldn't worry about eyewear being a "slippery slope" for your style. You have strong enough features that the bling wont overwhelm you, and there's no need to "match" the style of your clothing to your eyewear --- just incorporate it as another element. I might wear less jewelry while wearing them, because they'll "read" as jewelry anyway.

So, a modicum of bling yes but they're not going to out-dazzle your style.
I also compromise on eyewear. My optometrist, who is a brilliant practicioner, has a limited selection of frames and I take whatever's on offer, no point in being PPP.
I could go elsewhere but I don't want to, the guy's too good.

I like the shape and the bling is minimal. I have some blingy flat studs on the shoulder of a dark t-shirt I otherwise like, if I can't get them off I'm going to paint them with Martha Stewart 'sticks to everything' permanent/dishwasher safe craft paint in a dark metallic pewter black. If they really are for wear at home and the bling bothers you over time, something like that might be an option?

Wow! That IS a great idea from rabbit! I envision a very Anna Sui sort of matte black rhinestone thing going on.

Rachy, they aren't too blingy at all. If you didn't have dark hair, it would be different. However, you do, and to me that gives 'em a kind of punk retro vibe. Of course I know your preference is preppy punk, but still! Good purchase.

I've had to buy specs with bling, too, as my eye doctor has a limited selection of frames I can wear. Actually, after awhile I stopped noticing. Yours are probably the same way. I mean, they're not rocks, right?

I think they might possibly look really cool, and if they don't, Rabbit's idea is fab. The shape of them is nice. And would look good on your face.

For me, the cop out of style place is gear. It's pretty much all about function in that department, for me. Sure, I'd LIKE it if I could find good looking. But function plus price really seals it and the looks are secondary if not tertiary.
