Do you dress the girls in black and white or technicolor?

hehe- I know it's none of my business, but a shopping conversation with a friend left me wondering if I'm playing it too safe.

We were in Nordies returning a couple bras and the sales associate commented that they are going to be displaying more "fashion" bras, and less "basics" on the floor. I asked her to clarify the difference. Basically she said color vs black/nude. I commented that the bras that I like to buy only come in black and white to which she assured me is not true. She said "In fact, the bra you're wearing right now comes in fuscia" ummm, okay? (as I adjust my dress as to not continue to expose my bra to the world

Anyhoo, my friend took the opportunity to chide me that I need to move beyond my black and white comfort zone. I don't have a huge bra wardrobe (7) and I guess I don't feel that buying purple and pink and animal print would allow my bra collection to be as versatile as I need it to be. I make sure to have a variety of cuts so that I have the right bra to wear with a lower cut blouse or dress and thus I feel that adding colors into the mix might limit the wearability.

I see how it may be easier to get away with colorful bras during the winter, but it seems that it would be more difficult during summer (lower cuts, sleeveless, more sheer fabric) Am I looking at this the wrong way?

Just curious, if anyone cares to share......

Even wintertime dressing can be tricky without neutral (black or nude) bras. I have a black wool turtleneck pullover from AT that is incredibly sheer. I need to wear a cami underneath, and of course, I pair it with a black bra.

I used to be very into colorful/patterned/lacy bras, but the fabrications I wear these days just show too much, so I stick to nude and black "no-show" Jacquard bras. I really don't feel like I'm missing out...

I am super boring in this regard. I buy black or beige bras, period. I wear seamless cup minimizers, which only seem to come in basic colors. Yawn!

That's what I'm thinking MPJ. Even a sweater can show a bra. And it's not like I wear boring ugly bras...I do try for pretty and my husband isn't complaining.

I might add that this friend dresses much more "covered up" than I do. She tends to wear much looser, higher cut clothing of heavier fabric. Not that I dress like a tart or anything :-0

I only have nude bras. I wear a lot of white and hate for my bra to show through. I find if I have a colorful bra I have to plan when I'll wear it so it won't show through so I don't do it. I currently have 7 bras in rotation. I do not wear them 2 days in a row (they say to let them breathe) but will wear more than once on alternating days (if I haven't sweated in them)
I think colorful bras can be cute, but are impractical for me. Of course the cute colorful ones always seem to be on sale when the nude ones are not...

Oh Jonesy, I have to say that seamed bras changed my world. I used to live in minimizers, but I feel even better in my well fitting seamed bras now.

I used to have many different colors, including a striped multi-color one! They started getting less and less wear due to the transition to more work clothes. Now, all my bra purchases are black or nude colored so as not to flash people with bright pink

I pay too much for my bras (many of them seamed) to buy anything but versatile nude/beige or black.

I do not wear bras with lacy cups, because they are almost impossible to conceal. As far as color goes, though, it's a free for all. I actually find that bright colors work better for me, as they are more likely to blend in with my tops; so if a strap shows, it's less obvious, if that makes sense. I have maroon, navy, periwinkle, and red bras, all of which have proven very versatile.

But of course, beige is a must for white and sheer tops.

You forgot one : nude. That is all I wear except for two black bras every once in a while. I am just too practical for anything else. I don't like to have underwear that only go with certain clothes on a daily basis. Drives me nuts.

Isabel- I meant nude when I said white I guess.

declawed- I do like lacy bras,but make sure to also have some smooth in my collection as well. I guess that's another reason I don't want to add color as another variable.

Makrame- exactly! a $75 bra needs to go with everything.

Technicolor. I own one patterned black and one patterned nude just in case but otherwise I try to cover as much of the rainbow as I can.

However, I don't wear light colored clothing, so I'm never worried about show-through.

Although nude bras are a mainstay in my lingerie drawer, I have plenty of "fun" colours, too. Although I make every effort not to have a bra show at all, sometimes a sleeveless summer top will shift and temporarily expose a strap. Fun colours seem less underwear-ish, if that makes any sense.

Oh, and a pet peeve of mine is people wearing black bras with lighter coloured tops. A contrasting cami under lace (or a matching cami, too) can be nice, but that's different from a black bra under a white shirt. Nude is the way to go with light colours for me!

I have one print bra (blueish watercolor) that I honestly bought just for the ultra skinny straps that fit under spaghetti tanks. The rest are all nude/pink/white. Can you believe I've only owned one black bra? I bought it last year, and wouldn't you know it's the one who's front gore elastic I recently snapped. Figures.

I used to be a nude and black person until I had my bra fitting at a bra boutique and was introduced to the world of beautiful under things. While I'd stick to nude and black if I had only 2 or 3 bras, I think it's so much fun to experiment with other colors and designs if you're going to have a bigger collection. And, as others have mentioned, if a colored strap peeks out of a sundress, it looks less like underwear.

Black lace is my favorite. It's practical AND sexy. I wear a lot of black/dark colors and not too much white. I do have one white and one nude, both smooth, which I think are boring but necessary under light or tight things. I also have a few pretty colored lace ones as well, including a silvery lavender one which oddly functions as fairly nude/low contrast on me.

I hate it when nude or white bra straps show, but I don't mind (and sometimes think it's even kind of cool) when a pretty strap shows.

I'm as boring as they come. Black and nude all the way. But I only have a few. If I had a larger bra wardrobe I would love to have one (and the matching under drawers) in a pretty colour.

That is partly what keeps me to black and nude, though. I MUST match my bottoms to my tops.

I never do lace because they always show through my knits. I always keep one great nude and one black bra that are convertible.

After that, it's all color. I rarely wear light tops. My bras are expensive but great quality and fit are the most important things for me. I'm able to save a little money on them by buying in colors.

I also get a kick out of wearing a patterned top and a bra in a coordinating color. If I wear a top where there might be an occasional strap peakage I like them to go.

I almost always wear beige and black. I hadn't thought to buy any color until recently when store where I buy them was out of my size, except in the brightest green I've ever seen. DH calls it my Leprechaun bra.

No lace here because it shows. I have black, nude, aqua, fuchsia, silver, and leopard. All my sports bras are black or white.

MaryK, you and I are mirror images - my regular bras are black or nude, but my sports bras are fuchsia and aqua. I think a silver or leopard sports bra would kick serious booty, but I haven't come across any of those!

Black and nude for me if you please. I don't feel the need in a color in this area: I have enough color to keep me happy everywhere else

I used to have an entire drawer packed with colorful bras. I even had one that was deep aqua and pink animal print. LOL Now I stick primarily to smooth nude bras. I rarely buy black. I once saw a picture of myself in a slightly sheer top with a black bra under it and it showed through horribly. I do have a deep charcoal grey and may get another fashion color freya deco this fall. My sports bras are a bit more colorful. I have two of the new panache and one is dark purple and the other is lighter purple both two toned. Those things are outstanding at keeping the girls in place.
