I only buy bright colors if they are on super clearance at the Rack (i.e.: $9.97)... so I have one hot pink and one bright blue. Otherwise, only black and nude for me.

Black and nude only for me. I'm so boring. I used to have coloured bras too, in my twenties, but found I never really felt like wearing them, so eventually I just gave up and went with it.

I make sure I have a light bra and a black bra, but for the rest I have some colors and prints. I usually wear a cami if they're going to show under light colors anyway and under dark colors it usually doesn't matter, so I feel like I can have fun color! It kind of helps me stay cheerful in the winter- even if I'm wearing dark colors, I might have a fun colored bra under. I'm a lot more picky about lace/seaming that shows through my clothes than color. Silly, I know!

It looks like there is fair representation for both sides of the issue here

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one choosing to stick with black and nude (although actually 2 of what I'm classifying as my black bras are a dark cappuccino and a fig, so I'm not as boring as I was thinking)

It is interesting how quick I am to second guess what I think is working for me just because of something a friend says in jest. I would love to venture into the world of color, but would need to do so thoughtfully. I can't afford to have orphaned bras in my drawer.
Thanks for sharing ladies! It is fun to hear about your bra collections

My bra collection is boring but works well for me. I purchase 3 bras once a year, two nude and one black. All t-shirts styles. I used to purchase prints and other colors but found them not to work as well for my clothing and I would usually favor the two colors I now regularly sport. When I want a fun color bra, I go bright with sports bras. They are easier to find in the wash that way and I don't like to put them in the dryer. The bright colors are easy to pick out and hang dry when I have a load full of clothes to dry.

All my bras and undies are nude in color. I'm boring, lol

Nude and black. My bras have a job to do and that is what is most important to me. But, I will say, I love that my hardest working bras (chantelle rive gauche full cup) has pretty contrasting trim on the straps. I really appreciate that detail.

Okay, at my size, colors are usually limited and the bras are VERY expensive.

I buy whatever color is on sale in my size - except white. I usually end up with a couple that are close to nude and one dark bra (black, navy blue, etc.)

This is the rule I have noticed with bras: the ones that look fabulous when you're not wearing clothes are never the ones that look fabulous when you are wearing clothes.

Enough said?

I can't remember when I last had a white bra. I have black and nude, which are my most-worn, but when I find something fun in my size (not always easy) that's also comfortable, I like to add a little color to the mix. I usually try to get matching pants when that's the case. Keeps the man in my life happy.

Once upon a time I used to just get the packaged bras from Penney's in a 42ddd in beige and black and I just made do with the less than steller fit.A few years later I got a job at a plus size ladies store.Whoa! Now I'm a 40H and from working there 6years I now have from employee giveaways at new frame launches and the 40-50% discount a washload of black,a washload of cafe-mocha(tan true nude for me) ,A hot pink(I thought I was ordering a cute candy print oh well) ,coral, red, blue-violet with a lacey mesh and pink flower embroidery, water print, turqoise green, and two navy.Oh and a white that my mom bought at a discounter.
I don't always match panties to bras because some outfits need the undergarments to be nude or dark on the top or bottom .I do wear some bras specifically because they may show a bit(at the strap, armhole) to coordinate with the top. Panties I will occasionally color match to a color jean in case they show a bit of the top band when I'm bending over.

I 'm also a black/nude gal, but am limited because I can only wear certain types of front-closure bras. I would love a bra in neon green or other fun bright colors!

I always have black and nude bras but no white ones. The rest are all funky colors or prints. The black and nude basics are always such work to find and I tend to spend a lot of money on them. Colors I grab on closeout and clearance sales.

One of my current faves is raspberry, purple and teal in an awesome paisley print. It fits great and a those are core colors for my wardrobe so it blends in with a lot of what I wear.

I have black, black and black!

Like everyone else I have plenty of nude bras. Since I wear a white shirt as my work uniform, I need quite a few of them. Especially in the summer working outside, bras are the first thing to get sweaty! However, I also have a red bra, two blue ones, two black, one chocolate and one grey. As others have said, they are great for when you know your straps might show. The colors seem more fashiony and I somehow feel less embarrassed that my strap is showing. I picked up three DKNY Modern Lights bras at NAS, I especially love the straps (not too thick).

I have heard that colored bras are mostly there to provide some interest in a sea of nude, and that if you wait a little, the colored ones will be discounted soon enough.

I love lace and deep colors like burgundy, navy, forest green and of course black.
I don't like white and I just have 1 nude to wear with my white dresses!

In the summer, my nude, smooth bras get worn to death - I have two of them, to prevent laundry pile-ups! I also have a smooth white bra with pretty lacy straps and a smooth black bra. Then I have a plethora of colours - I love buying underwear! They may not get worn quite as often (and sometime that is because they have a lace trim or something on the cup, so might show through clothes) but I love it when I do wear them - they make me feel pretty and feminine!

I sweat a lot so camis are a must as I donot like my tops sticking on my back when I was back in India... So I could wear any bra I want and that meant I would buy any colour any design and any patterned one I wanted... :)...
I just have 1 black one and I have 10 and they are all possible colors and patterned ones like stripes, florals etc
Oh ya no lace for me... I feel ticklish

Black, white and nude - nothing exciting. To me well fitting is far more important than pretty colours.

Kari, if you see this, would you mind sharing what brand you wear? I'm always struggling with that. I usually go to Lane Bryant, but am limited to just one style that fits me well. I'd love some more options.

I don't have whites, at all!
All mine are blacks and nudes in all shapes (plus laces, too), one grey, and one coral red which matches 2 summer dresses prone to showing bra straps.
+For one of my balcony bra I even have a special metal jewelery strap-a true gem! Love that with a boat neck evening wear.

I do have some colorful bras - red, hot pink, turquoise - and a couple of animal prints. But it's the black and nude that get worn most often. Sometimes the colors and prints show through even darker colored tops. I used to wear white bras, but when they wore out I didn't replace them. Nude pretty much covers all bases.

I love colors and patterns in addition to the basics, but always prefer a smooth cup to a lacey one, or one with various stitching and bumpy bits. I guess texture is more important to me than color. I use my black, white or beige ones more often, it's true, but I love the fun of the colors.

Queen Mum, thanks very much!

Has anyone seen this:

It's not technicolor, but seems like a great resource.

Black and nude - no lace. Have one pink bra - almost never wear it!

I have always enjoyed having some fun undergarments, at least a couple colors or patterns. I think I learned this from my mother funnily enough. Black and nude get the most wear, but actually red and pink work under a lot too, and in summer I rely on some deliberate strap exposure, so I like to have pretty straps. Also to be honest hubby hates nude with a passion, so I only wear those under white.
