Do you bodysuit?

I've been trying to add just a couple of work tops that are flexible (work with basically everything I own) and are different somehow but also feel like me. Professional but not uptight, basically. So, I followed Greyscale's lead and ordered the black silk JC bodysuit and also a burgundy cotton one as well. If they work, they will be great with work pants and a blazer/knit jacket and also with my new higher-waisted pants.

I'm a little uneasy about the whole bodysuit thing, though, and these may or may not work for me. What about you? Have you jumped on this bandwagon?

I wore them when they were popular in the 90's. I haven't bought any this time around just because I don't usually tuck my shirts. I thought they were comfortable as long as they were long enough since I'm long-waisted.

I can't get past the impracticality of using the restroom. And since I'm short waisted and petite, I probably will pass. They do give a nice sleek look with high waisted pants, but I'm not there.

I had a couple in the early 90s that I LOVED. A black turtleneck and a white one. But they were form-fitting and I was younger and skinnier.

These days I never tuck in my tops, so it probably wouldn't make any sense for me. I actually tried one on in Zara last year and it didn't look half bad, but it's just a question of how I would really wear it since, again, not tucking tops these days. In fact, I've become such an infrequent tucker that I'm wondering why I've been keeping all my belts, which have largely gone unworn for well over a year now.

Karen13: These from JCrew snap at the crotch. So not really a bathroom issue, I don't think? Also, they have two rows of snaps so in theory can accommodate shorter and longer torsos.

Janet: I hear you. I've been tucking more, as I've been wearing more higher waisted pants. You know, my body hasn't changed - I still don't really have a waist -- but JC (and some others) seem to do a higher waist in a way that works on me. It's high but not too high. And also, importantly, not too narrow (although in Everlane, I have to size up for the waist to fit). If I tuck in and the pants are flat front, I wear a jacket or cardigan so my profile isn't too Alfred Hitchcock (IYKWIM). With the paperbag waist, the tie and pleats have their own ballooning thing going on, but it's the look. I suppose I have traded one JFE look (waist surrendering sacks) for another (pseudo-waists that aren't particular small, and with belly potential). Anyway, YES. With tucking, the bodysuit seemed worth a try.

And I have to admit, these bodysuits are part of a plan to get me back to the gym. LOL.

I also wore them in the 90's and loved them but I tried on a few last summer and realized I just don't have the body for them anymore.

Try it, it may be perfect for you but don't compromise on fit. An ill fitting bodysuit is the most uncomfortable thing in the world. Move around and sit up and down in it before you decide to keep it.

I remember wearing them as a teenager, but now I just look at them and see a UTI waiting to happen. I have a long rise, though, so I think that makes a good fit difficult. They might work better on a different body type.

I do like that JCrew is offering some that are woven and not skin-tight styles. I would be willing to try one, since these seem like they would be great for layering. Too bad the JCrew near me is closing.

I think they worked for me in the past because I do have such a short torso! Not so much wedgie potential.

I have three of the above (Black, coral, aubergine - aubergine being the least worn). I wear under sheer tops, tops where the straps are seen but I don't want to wear a strapless bra, gapey tops...

They are fitted enough to not require a bra... my tops are loose on top of these.

I adore them - they mean wearing one piece rather than three (bra, cami, knickers) which makes outfits feel sleeker. I find them comfortable.

I would wear one more as a top too if it was the right style, especially for layering under a jacket. Tucking is a challenge for me (too bulky, slips in and out, never sits right) so I see these as appealing.

Not since the 80's or 90's. I'm so old I can't even remember. They are sleek and chic-looking, but can't imagine fussing with the snaps etc. . Plus, wouldn't you get VPL if the pants are at all fitted? I can't remember why that wasn't an issue back when I wore them though ....I guess they are fairly thin and fine-gauged so show-through wouldn't happen.

Sally, that Elle Macpherson bodysuit reminds me of the Danskin swimsuits I wore as a skinny preteen. Maybe they were even bodysuits? But they had no snaps, and I definitely wore them in the pool ... anyway, the same very simple design. I LOVE this look - so clean and elegant. Might try your Elle Mac. Thanks for sharing!

I have one in black lace (lined) that is more for going out at night. I was wondering if the shit type ones would work for me, as I do like to tuck and hate the extra bulk under my pants, but I haven’t tried one yet.

I have thought about it, but I have a long torso and a sneaking suspicion that most styles will cut into my undercarriage in a very uncomfortable way. I think that they make a nice sleek alternative to tucking in your top.

US and NZ/Au/UK sizings are different. I think our 10 is your 6 approximately. And sometimes our large is about your medium (sizes are all over the place but based on my experience)

Do I bodysuit? Hahaha. No. There needs to be enough of a rise not to pull or wedgie. Allow for extra time when using the restroom. Do not wear with tights, too many layers. Yes, I wore these back in my youth and have no good memories of them. Need to be washed or cleaned after each and every wear.

I was looking for one to wear under my ball skirt last year. I thought it would give a nicer line than tucking in a button down. Never found one at the time. If I was staying in the workforce, I would be tempted.

I haven't. I want the possibility of leaving tops untucked--actually, that's how I wear them the majority of the time, these days--and that's obviously not possible with a bodysuit.

That being said, there have been a few times when I was attracted to a very cute top, only to realize, to my disappointment, that it was a bodysuit!

When my girls were fast-growing babies I discovered they sold extender tabs so your toddler could wear her cute onsie a little longer. I didn't buy them then, but I wished they'd been around to make my bodysuits more comfortable.

In the 90s, tall, long-torsoed, skinny me loved body suits and would by them many sizes larger than I usually wore to accommodate my lengthy mid-section. Now, tall., long-torsoed, size 14 me can’t find any that are both long and big enough to accommodate me... so sitting out this go-round.

I did them in the 90s, and I recall them being rather constricting. They felt too short-waisted and all the snaps in the crotch drove me buggy. No plan s to repeat this trend.

In the 90s I had a very cool gray cotton bodysuit. My college roommate stole it out of the laundry room (to be fair I often left my stuff there for quite a while) -- I saw her wearing it months later. I'm still irked, but hey, she's now one of my oldest friends and we just had a lovely dinner while I was back in Boston.

I hadn't worn one since then, until I found the silk one you're discussing. I really do love it. I almost never tuck in shirts, but for professional occasions, it's nice to have that option. It drapes nicely, fits me perfectly, and stays tucked in no matter what I do.

I have a very long torso and the silk one is fine on me, on the longer snap setting. But the snaps did irritate me a bit when I wore tight-ish skinnies. Incidentally, if people are curious, the panty portion is nylon. I wear it over my usual thick cotton underpants and it's not nearly as tight as nylons/tights (which I dislike).
