Do I have room for both these green jackets?

1-3 I currently own. Military jacket style and construction - thick, crisp unlined cotton canvas with heavy zippers that I feel like I could actually go to war in.

4-6 is the jacket in question. Drapey, fluid, lightweight anorak. Water resistant, wicking, packable. Could wear in summer and to work without overheating. I have the waist cinched a bit here but I could also un-cinch for a more oversized look. Fabric is a very subtle shadow stripe.

Am I being crazy to think these are different enough to have both? Thinking that one is for CA F/W outdoor and the other is S/S indoor?

Ok, at first I thought they were the same jacket. Then I noticed that 4-6 is longer. I don't really see it as an indoor jacket... maybe because of the length, or just the general feel of it.

It looks pretty gearish to me -- but it definitely is a different jacket and would serve a different set of variables.

I think they are very different and you can build very different feeling outfits with each one of them.
I would keep it.

Oh, and to clarify -- gearish isn't a minus, just that it looks like technical fabric to me as opposed to cotton or whatever.

If you're asking whether they fill different roles in your wardrobe, perhaps. But I admit to the casual observer it will look like 2 versions of the same jacket. (this doesn't mean I don't have more than one version of something in my own closet! I mean, who here has only 1 black skirt or blue jeans?)

Utility jackets are a), trending, which I'm sure you know, and b), definitely resonating with your style, so I can imagine two different weight jackets being very useful for you. however, I have to agree with Liz that the second jacket doesn't really seem like an indoor jacket - the length etc. makes me think its more of a gear outdoor jacket.

I see no problem wearing it casually, but gear and casual are interchangeable for my world. I do think its a little repetitive - maybe a different color? I have one functional jacket like this (Marmot rain trench) and that is all I reach for when I need it.

I'm not a good influence, Rae, because I adore military jackets and know that *I* would keep both, which is no reason you should.

In college, I had my hair extremely short. Really short, like Annie Lennox from Eurythmics, 1980s style. This was my favorite outfit: real-deal army jacket with sleeves rolled and scrunched; long gloves; heeled boots; my extremely short hair and fairly dramatic, full makeup (like a Chanel makeover). I loved the contrasts between all those things.

So there's no wisdom in this reply whatsoever, but my heart says keep them both!

I'll say yes, too gearish for those looks... although could you really wear those to work? I almost think the first jacket would work better with those looks, but maybe still not for work (I know you work at Nordstrom... just thinking about the SAs I deal with).

I think it's not so much "too gearish" as "too outerwearish" for work.

And also? I am just super over Lululemon after all the horrible behavior by their management. They are just plain not a company I want to support.

Hmmm, I really don't see any difference between the two jackets. At least, not to my untrained eye. Of the two, I really like #1 a great deal more. I would rather save the cash for something that is going to fill a much larger hole. Or perhaps buy a kitty shirt when one pops up.

As far as the looks you noted above, I really feel like #1 gets you far closer to them than #2.

Ok, thanks, ladies. I was totally seduced by how comfortable the Lulu is. And I keep wanting to recreate the success of my other Lulu blazer, which keeps me dry and comfy all the livelong day.

I guess the bottom line is that I should not have bought the original jacket, either, since I find it really heavy for work/indoor use.

Also, Mary, I had somehow missed the management debacle. Wow.

Oh well... onto the next thing. Maybe now I can get one of those Zara pretties... o_0

Besides I thought your new department was less physical.

I am a sucker for miltary and safari-type jackets. But, I think #1 reads more like that and works better with work-wear--over pencil or tube skirt, and pants, and of course jeans. #2 not so much--not that there's no way, just much harder to make work, I think.
I'd hold out for something different--even a different gear-ish one.

Is the first one the same as this one (in the picture I saved)? I really liked it, and would check Nordstrom every so on to see if they had it. But it doesn't seem to have a belt. I think it's ok to have more than one green utility jacket if they function different or you just like them both. I have several but they are different - unlined versus insulated, hooded versus no hood, etc.

However, I agree with MaryK about Lululemon. Why give them your business? There are lots of companies out there that are respectful of women.

Do you need to justify keeping both? Closet space issue? I think they both look and fit great. For some reason, I'm just thinking that if you had to choose, keep the longer one. I can't explain why. Helpful, eh? But I would keep both--why not?

Thanks for all the help, everyone! I have decided to return the Lulu. It's neither here nor there, I guess.

Anna, yes, the new department is less physical. But the canvas one really is heavy - there are several thick, heavy zippers and the canvas is thick as well.

Rachy, no, just the belted one is currently in my closet.

JAileen, yes! That is the same jacket. It was not from Nordies, though; the brand is Superdry. It is a super sweet jacket, even though it's not great for lots of movement indoors.

A fun jacket, I like the military look so I would keep both. It is so easy to remix these pieces.

Would you consider a SLEEVELESS utility jacket for indoors? Last year, I got an Ambition one at Nordies (well, actually bought two but returned the Junior one because it wasn't made as well). I find it to be a perfect third piece because I run a little cold, it gives me pockets, and doesn't restrict my movement.
